13 New Restaurants In November 2021—Cheap Wagyu Don, Vietnamese Hotpot And Ex-Hotel Chef Dim Sum

New restaurants in Singapore—November 2021

In spite of ongoing restrictions, November offers plenty of new restaurants in Singapore to dine at to take your mind off current affairs. From a new hotpot and dim sum concept by the chefs behind Fullerton Hotel and Mott32, as well as an affordable don bowl joint by an ex-DB Bistro chef, here’s a list of new restaurants and cafes this November 2021 you can jio your plus one to.

1. Around Cafe

Easties, your hood just got tons cooler with Around Cafe, a glasshouse cafe that opens till 2am, serving up desserts such as gelato and waffles to satisfy your cravings. Go big and get their Waffles With Two Rounds ($14.90), a double scoop serving of gelato atop crispy buttermilk waffles, with the option of Biscoff or chocolate sauce as a topping. Other menu items include an array of chunky cookies, acai bowls, and mocktails to quench your thirst.

Situated next to The Alps Residences, this off-the-beaten-track gem tends to draw a long queue after hours, so be sure to head down earlier if you want to munch on some waffles before bedtime.

2. Dont Yell At Me

Famed Taiwanese bubble tea brand Dont Yell At Me has finally arrived in Singapore after opening over 380 outlets worldwide. Their local outpost in Orchard sees all their famous signature drinks, as well as baked goods from The Bake Vault.

We weren’t the biggest fans of their bakes, but the drinks are definitely recommended. Most beverages have a Taiwanese twist, from offering winter melon tea to the option of sweet potato and taro balls as a topping. We especially loved their Tiramisu Cheese Foam ($9)—while pricey, this once-in-a-while indulgence is literally dessert in a cup.

3. The Gyu Co

Ex-DB Bistro chef Wilson Ang has branched out on his own to open The Gyu Co, an affordable eatery that serves up a medley of Japanese-inspired don bowls, with premium ingredients. Beef is clearly the mainstay here, so try their Classic Gyudon ($9.90), which comes with 100g of melt-in-your-mouth Aussie Wagyu, pearl grain rice, and an onsen egg atop. For a serious treat, the Truffle Foie Gras Gyudon ($17.90) hits all the spots, with a torched slab of foie gras, truffle shavings, and thin Wagyu slices all topping your rice bowl.

While the menu has its atas moments, the eatery remains a humble gem. Located a short walk from Jurong East MRT Station, the stall currently offers only outdoor seating, and can get crowded during meal hours.

4. Butterspace Bakery

Butterspace Bakery departs slightly from your usual heartlands ice cream and waffles cafe by offering ice cream sandwiches on the menu that you can customise. Dubbed the Cookie Sandwich ($8.50), your order comes with your choice of ice cream, sauce, and cookie. All cookies are baked in-house, with flavours such as S’MoresColourful CirclePink Goddess, and Peanut Butter & Jelly available.

The cafe is rather spartan in decor, but if it’s a quick dessert respite with your friends that you’re looking for, then this fits the simple bill. Note that because it is located deep in the Bedok heartlands, it can be a bit of a journey to get here if you don’t stay nearby.

Using native ingredients, the menu at Mrs Pho House spotlights an ala carte selection of Vietnamese fare, as well as hotpot. 11. Pi Food

Dual concept Pi Food is a cha chaan teng by day, and a mod-Chinese bar by night, with Hong Kong cuisine as its core. The new restaurants has recently expanded their menu under the expertise of a former Lei Garden Hong Kong chef, with all-new sharing plates to look forward to. Their Traditional Steamed Grouper Belly ($38++) is a must-order for those who love fish; premium grouper belly meat is gently steamed till tender atop a lotus leaf, with added black fungus, dates, and cabbage for texture, as well as sweetness. The Black Pepper Beef with Potatoes ($22) is another worthwhile order, as thick, juicy Australian sirloin cubes are dressed with a housemade black pepper sauce for a kick of heat.

The minimalistic restaurant is ideal especially for business lunches, or after-hour wind-down sessions, thanks to its convenient Dhoby Ghaut location.

12. Yanxi Dim Sum & Hotpot

We last reviewed Yanxi Palace Steamboat when they were a hotpot-only dining destination, with a menu loosely inspired by the famed Chinese drama. They have since revamped, however, to become Yanxi Dim Sum & Hotpot, a new restaurant offering the best of both worlds, including a brand-new dim sum and ala carte menu, conceptualised by the ex-chefs of Fullerton Hotel, and Mott32 in Marina Bay Sands. Expect to be wowed by theatrical servings of traditional Chinese fare, as well as delectable dim sum. The Sampling Platter ($12++) is a must, as you get to choose three types of dim sum, including the famed Quail Egg & Bonito Flakes Siew Mai.

Located in the former ballroom of Hotel Re! at Pearl’s Hill, the eatery is a little austere, but offers ample space for casual dim sum get-togethers or family dinners, once the latter is permitted again.

13. Shake Shack Westgate

Westies, it is finally your turn to get a Shake Shack in your area, as the American fast-food chain recently opened its next outlet in Westgate. As with every new Shake Shack restaurant, exclusive menu items come in tow. This time round, it’s a truffle-focused menu, featuring Black Truffle Burger ($14/$17.50)Black Truffle Chick’n Shack ($14),and Crinkle Cut Fries Topped with Black Truffle Sauce ($8.90). Head straight for the chicken burger if it’s an indulgence you want, as juicy fried chicken is matched by house-pickled shallots, and an earthy whisper of black truffle.

All Shake Shack outlets get an aesthetic of their own, and at Westgate, the masculine decor is reminiscent of a gentlemen’s lounge, giving the neighbourhood mall a bit of a facelift.
