Big news for Hunan cuisine fans: Nong Geng Ji opens its eighth outlet in Singapore! Those about to depart from Singapore can now enjoy their famous spicy flavours at Jewel Changi Airport, adding to the mall’s already extensive lineup of eats.

The restaurant leans rustic and folksy, more so than other Nong Geng Ji outlets we’ve visited. Wooden furnishings, warm lantern lighting, and decorative touches inspired by Hunan’s countryside come together to create a space that looks really cosy. There seems to be an open kitchen concept too, where you can see all the magic happen.

The Jewel restaurant introduces five dishes you won’t find at any other outlets. Steamed Chicken with Chinese Bayberry Vinegar ($14.80++) offers a gentle, tangy take on the humble steamed chicken, while the Chef’s Signature Open-fire Roasted Chicken ($24.80++) brings smoky depth and aromatic intensity. There’s also the Claypot Mature Kampong Duck ($25.80++), said to be slow-cooked until rich and tender.

Rounding out the exclusives are Hunan Rice Noodles with Braised Sauce (Dry) ($12.80++)—chewy noodles dressed in a savoury, spicy sauce—and Pandan Coconut Jelly ($5.80++), where fragrant pandan and smooth coconut jelly make for a cool finish to your meal.

If you’re a Nong Geng Ji first-timer, don’t miss out on the iconic Stir-Fried Pork with Abalone & Chili ($28.80++). This dish relies heavily on Hunan green peppers, which give the pork and baby abalone an addictive spicy kick.

A newer dish that we think is worth checking out is the Grilled Eel with Roasted Chilli Flavour ($31.80++), which sees umami-rich feels infused with the piquant, smoky flavours of roasted chilli.

And if you’d like a robust soup to go along with your meal, there’s the Chicken Soup with Abalone and Matsuake Mushrooms ($7.80++) to enjoy—clear, savoury, with a rich earthiness to boot.
