This New Peranakan Stall In Orchard Has $1.50 Kueh And Legit Nyonya Laksa

Nya Nya has affordable Peranakan dishes at Wisma Atria

Bukit Timah Plaza regulars will be familiar with Nonya Delicatessen, a Peranakan eatery known for its house-made kuehs and hearty mains. But if the West is a little too far for you, you can now try similar fare at Nya Nya, a new stall at Wisma Atria that’s run by the same family—specifically its third-generation owners, both of whom are Gen Zs!

The menu here is similar to that of Nonya Delicatessen, with even the prices remaining mostly the same. The star main dish here is the Nasi Kunyit ($8.90), where fragrant turmeric rice is paired with a curry chicken leg. While the rice has held back a little by being too clumpy, the large, succulent chicken leg impressed, and the piquant curry paired well with the sambal on the side, adding layers to the dish.

Another dish to try here is the Nonya Laksa ($6.90), which features a spicy, coconut-based broth, thick bee hoon, and tau pok that soaks up the soup nicely. While the broth could have been richer, it still makes for a satisfying main dish.

The Mee Siam ($6.90) also hit the spot with its sour-spicy goodness and silky rice vermicelli. With three main dishes out of the way, it was time to move on to the desserts.

The Sago Gula Melaka ($4.50) is a gorgeous dessert of chewy sago pearls, gula melaka, and coconut milk. If you don’t have much of a sweet tooth, be warned—it was cloying to the point of excess.

There are plenty of cakes and kuehs available here as well, with our favourite being the Kueh Salat ($1.50), thanks to its fragrant pandan custard and balanced sweetness.

Also delicious is the Kueh Koswee ($1.50), which has a soft, bouncy texture and a nice sweetness that’s lifted by grated coconut.

If you’re looking for affordable Peranakan food in town, then Nya Nya is a solid bet. You’ll find it at Wisma Atria’s Food Republic, a mere four-minute walk from Orchard MRT Station!
