If your fam are fans of Taiwanese porridge, it’s more likely than not that you’ve been to Oasis Taiwan Porridge in its iconic circular building in Toa Payoh Town Park. And if you haven’t been there, it’s time you make your way, because they’re due to move out of this location come 14 January 2024.

Possibly the oldest Taiwan porridge eatery in Singapore, Oasis Taiwan Porridge was established in 1969. They were originally located in Kallang, in an equally stunning building on stilts over the Singapore River that also housed No Signboard Seafood Restaurant—this building was torn down to make way for the National Stadium and Sports Hub.

Then, they moved to Toa Payoh Town Park in the 2000s, where they’ve been ever since—until 1 February 2024, when they will make Grantral Mall in MacPherson their new home, just a short six-minute walk from Tai Seng MRT Station.

Of course, there are noodle and rice dishes that you can order here, just like at any zi char restaurant, for example, Fried Rice ($12/$18) with your choice of salted fish, seafood, sambal, or Yang Chow-style. There’s also Mee Suah ($12/$18/$24) and Seafood Ee Fu Noodles ($12/$24), but you should, at least once, try the Sweet Potato Porridge ($2) that’s free-flow, and packed with chunks of hand-picked sweet potato!

The plain porridge serves as a perfect complement to the spread of tasty dishes that Oasis Taiwan Porridge is known for. Don’t miss their Stewed Pork ($12/$16/$22), which comes swimming in a tasty braising liquid that you can add to your porridge.

Alternatively, their Pork Knuckle ($22) features a thicker gravy, and gelatinous layers of fat and skin.

An easy favourite is Steamed Minced Pork with Salted Egg ($12) that’s a comforting combo with porridge or rice, which is also available.

The Steamed Pomfret, done Teochew- or Hong Kong-style, might be a classic fish dish to have, but you can also consider Sea Bass that is deep-fried and served with a soya sauce-based gravy. Their signature, however, is Pomfret with Salted Black Bean Sauce, which tastes better than it looks. All fish dishes are charged according to market prices.

Patrons here also love their Fresh Cockles ($12), which you could also enjoy Thai Style ($12) or cooked with Sambal ($15/$20).

Another cold dish to have with the hot porridge is Cold Beancurd with Century Eggs and Pork Floss ($8/$10/$12); otherwise, their signature Oasis Beancurd ($12) stars a slab of deep-fried tofu topped with chye poh, and served in a savoury gravy.

Other Taiwan porridge essentials, AKA Chye Poh Omelette ($12)Oysters Omelette ($15), as well as fan favourite 3 Types of Eggs with Chinese Spinach ($12/$16/$22) and more can also be found on the menu here. It’s too bad that they’re now only open from 11am to 11pm daily—they used to operate around the clock so you could have all these at literally any time of the day or night.
