There are plenty of food options in Orchard, but one often overlooked spot is Orchard Gateway, which is directly connected to Somerset MRT Station. The next time you find yourself in town, try one of these best food places at Orchard Gateway, including an Taiwan-famous shaved ice and popular Hunan restaurant.
Cool down from the heat with Yang Xiao Xian‘s milk ice. This is the famous Taiwanese chain’s first foray into Singapore, so there was a fair bit of buzz when they landed on our shores in early March 2023. A must-try is the Super Mango Milk Ice ($28.90), a giant-sized dessert that feeds up to five people. It comes with fluffy mango-flavoured milk ice that melts in the mouth, topped with juicy mango cubes and even more mango syrup.

Most items are $10 to $12 here, but if you don’t mind spending a little more, opt for the Ribeye Chop ($16) or Beef Ribeye Steak ($16).

Famous Hunan restaurant Nong Geng Ji has an outlet at Orchard Gateway, offering their signature Stir-Fried Pork with Abalone and Chilli ($28.80++). This flavour-packed dish is made with premium black pork, fresh abalone, and peppers. We also recommend the Steamed Egg with Minced Meat ($12.80++) to pair with the heavier dishes, as the steamed egg is a lot lighter on the palate. If you’re heading down in a group, get the Wuchang Steamed Rice with Sweet Potato and Red Dates ($7.90++), featuring a rice pot that feeds about three to four diners.

CHAGEE needs no introduction. It’s arguably the most well-loved tea chain in Singapore, as it sees snaking queues every day. Our favourite drink is the Bo-Ya Jasmine Green Milk Tea ($4.90), a perfect combination of fresh milk and fragrant jasmine tea. If you’d like something sweeter, the Peach Oolong Milk Tea ($4.90) is an equally good choice, while the Da Hong Pao Snow Cap Milk Tea ($6.90) is a special treat that is both sweet and creamy.

For those on a budget, Saizeriya has your back with wallet-friendly offerings. Everything is at nett prices here and is unbelievably cheap—take the Vongole Spicy Tomato for example, which costs $5.90 while the Sirloin Steak is only $12.50—half the price of what you’d usually get elsewhere. For something to share with your dining companions, consider the Black Truffle Mushroom Pizza ($7.90) or a classic Pepperoni ($7.90).

Casual ramen joint Kanshoku Ramen Bar is said to be one of the pioneers of the truffle ramen trend, so you should definitely try their Signature Truffle Ramen ($16.90++) or Truffle Uni Ramen ($28.90++). Both noodle dishes are said to boast a discernible truffle aroma. Otherwise, their Black Garlic Ramen ($15.50++) is a popular alternative for a punchy, garlicky flavour. Zhng up your ramen with optional toppings, such as Ramen Egg ($2.50++) and Charshu ($46+).

Besides Yang Xiao Xian, another dessert spot to check out is Chan Susu 1994. This China-famous dessert brand has been around since 1994, with over 20 items on the menu to choose from. If you can’t decide, go straight for the Handmade Lava Taro Balls Grand Bowl ($8.90), starring black glutinous rice, taro balls, taro paste, red bean, peach raisin and more. For something simpler, a warm bowl of Pistachio Paste ($8.60) or Signature Mango Pomelo Sago ($7.60) should do the trick.
