We Visited A “Fruit Buffet” In Hillview Where You Can Fill A Box For Just $8.90

Pawfect Fruit has fruit and vegetable buffets in Hillview

If you’ve ever wished you could load up on premium fruits without paying premium prices, there’s a unique spot in Hillview that might be worth checking out. We recently visited Pawfect Fruit, tucked away in Lam Soon Industrial Building, to try its affordable fruit and vegetable “buffet” concept.

This fruit rescue initiative lets customers fill a small box for $8.90 or a large box for $19.90 with fresh fruits and vegetables. The concept is simple: pack as much produce as you can into the box, as long as the lid closes properly.

The experience begins inside an industrial building along Hillview Avenue, where forklifts whizz past and stacks of produce line the warehouse. The buffet itself is housed in a giant cold room maintained at around 3°C, which felt even colder than Snow City during our visit. Thankfully, complimentary winter jackets are available for customers who need them.

On the day of our visit, there were more than 20 types of produce available, though the selection changes daily based on stock availability.

Some of the most exciting finds included Spanish doughnut peaches, which are rarely seen in Singapore, alongside Australian Hass avocados, Australian cherry tomatoes, and Indian ice cream mangoes.

We also spotted premium yellow dragonfruit from Ecuador, which was limited to two per box due to high demand.

Other fruits available during our visit included Envy apples, Chinese honey lemon melons, US strawberries, and premium Australian rock melons. Packaged coconuts were also included in the buffet.

It’s not just fruits either. We saw a variety of vegetables, such as red, yellow, and green capsicums, carrots, spinach, and enoki mushrooms.

The idea behind the buffet is surprisingly meaningful. Pawfect is primarily a wholesaler that supplies produce to supermarkets, bakeries, and other businesses. Many of the fruits and vegetables available at the buffet are surplus stock or items that were rejected by retailers due to cosmetic imperfections, yet they are still perfectly fresh and edible.

We also appreciated how friendly and helpful the staff were. Upon entering, they took the time to explain how the buffet worked and answered our questions about the different produce available. Once you’ve finished packing your box, the team will neatly repack everything into bags for easy transport home.

Considering the quality of produce, the novelty of shopping inside a giant cold room, and the affordable pricing, we found the experience surprisingly fun and well worth the trip.
