If you, like me, turn to Johor Bahru cafes whenever you travel to Malaysia, take this as an opportunity to do something different the next time you cross the border. Pizza Hutan is a great start; this lakeside pizzeria operates from a traditional kampung house tucked away in a forest! Here, you can enjoy freshly baked pizzas from a hut while soaking in the lush greenery.

The current exchange rate is RM1 = ~S$0.30 as of 11 December 2024.

The menu mainly sees pizza and satay, with five flavours for the former and three for the latter. Each tray of pizza is freshly prepared and baked upon order; some popular options include Beef Pepperoni (RM35) and Hawaiian Chicken (RM35).

Though not stated on the menu, there’s also the premium Japanese Wagyu (RM139), which is the priciest flavour. It comes loaded with stretchy mozzarella cheese, tender Wagyu slices, and colourful specks of bell peppers.

Pair your pizza with their satay, available in chicken, beef, or mutton. Both the Satay Ayam and Satay Daging are priced at RM15 each, while Satay Kambing costs RM25.

Pizza Hutan is quite a distance from the Causeway, approximately about two hours by car, but it offers some respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, making it an ideal spot to unwind especially during the upcoming holidays.
