16 Best Serangoon Food Places For Korean Braised Spicy Chicken, Champagne Ribs And More

Best Serangoon food places

As a North-Eastie, one place that I can always count on for a satisfying meal is Serangoon, which boasts many great eats at famous food centres such as Chomp Chomp Food Centre and Serangoon Gardens. But that’s not all there is━here, we’ve curated a list of 16 best Serangoon food places that are lesser-known, yet just as delicious.

1. SimpleBurger Inc

SimpleBurger Inc is a unique stand-up burger joint opened by the same owner of the popular Western food chain, iSteaks Diner, so you can be certain the food here won’t disappoint. They adopt a DIY concept, where you get to customise your own burger. There’s even a vegetable station where you can pile up on free-flow veggies!

We loved the Natural Beef Patty Burger ($9/$13), which contained a mix of striploin and ribeye. The beef was smoky, grilled and juicy, despite containing no seasoning. There are also other additions that you can include such as Parmesan Tuile ($1.50) and salty Bacon ($1.50) strips among other add-ons. If you haven’t tried building a burger before, SimpleBurger Inc is definitely worth a visit.

2. Kelim Dakdoritang

Kelim Dakdoritang, a popular Korean restaurant chain with a history dating back close to 60 years, offers a rare treat in Singapore━dakdoritang, AKA braised spicy chicken. As the restaurant’s name suggests, their must-try dish is the Dakdoritang, which is available in three different sizes, suitable for groups of up to four people: Small ($36.90+), Medium ($59.90+), and Large ($69.90+)

The dish comprises generous amounts of rice cakes, potato chunks, tender and juicy chicken, and a substantial amount of minced garlic. For those who can’t take spice, go for the Dakhanmari (from $36.90) instead: it’s a non-spicy alternative to dakdoritang.

3. Lau Wang Claypot Delights

Lau Wang Claypot Delights is located in a coffee shop just a short seven-minute walk away from NEX. The Sesame Chicken ($6.30/$8.30) is a popular choice here. Every piece of chicken was tender, well-marinated, and fragrant with sesame oil.

If you’re in the mood to challenge your taste buds, give the spicy Sambal Seafood ($11.50) a try. It was delivered to our table with fish, squid, crab stick and lady’s finger simmering in a bubbling hot sauce. For something wholesome and comforting, get a bowl of Sliced Fish Herbal Soup ($7.30/$9.80) to sip on. The broth was rich and contained hints of sweet goji berry, with a slightly bitter aftertaste, while the fish had a pleasant bite to it.

Located in Serangoon Garden Market & Food Centre, Bossi Ban Mian isn’t your average ban mian stall. What sets them apart is their Hakka-style ban mian with the addition of chye poh. A must-try is their Signature Noodle ($8/$9), which features a generous bowl of dry ban mian that’s tossed in a dark sauce with ingredients such as chye poh, minced meat, baby abalone, scallop, and prawn.

The latter features a crisp, golden-brown bottom with a juicy filling and a good skin-to-meat ratio. Besides the dumplings, a standout dish is their Fong Kee Rice Cake ($5), which is similar to the Korean tteokbokki.
