It might sound like a promotion deal, but I guarantee you it’s not: SOE Coffee at Raffles Place MRT Station has coffee from just $1.99, dispensed right before your eyes!
This brightly-lit kiosk serves only two items: the Americano ($1.99) and Latte ($2.99), both available in hot and iced variations.Â
After ordering, your coffee will be machine-poured from taps lining the counter. The process is seriously no-frills: pay, get your coffee dispensed, and walk away with said coffee in hand.Â
But for machine-dispensed coffee at such low prices, how does it fare in taste?Â
The iced Americano is simple: an espresso shot over plain water. Even though they used 100% Arabica beans, the coffee was not strong and rather thin, with the roasted, bitter flavours absent.Â
Their iced Latte didn’t do much better. The milk was too overpowering, and while it made the drink creamy, it masked the coffee notes, making it a rather unimpressive beverage.
We also tried the hot version of the Latte, and we thought that the warm, frothy milk brought out the flavours of the coffee more effectively. I would recommend getting your coffee hot here instead, but still, don’t expect cafe-grade coffee here.Â
Indeed, the coffee here isn’t the best-tasting. However, at this price point in the heart of the CBD, it is simply an unbeatable spot to get a super affordable caffeine fix.Â
