With the durian season in full bloom, it’s no wonder that Singaporeans are flocking to the best durian stalls and buffets around. Here’s one for those seeking a unique weekend experience featuring the king of fruits: Sunway Big Box Retail Park in Johor Bahru (JB) will be hosting its first-ever Durian Carnival from 31 July to 3 August 2025!

The current exchange rate is RM1 = ~S$0.30 as of 15 July 2025.

Admission to the carnival grounds is free of charge, but let’s be honest: you’ll be there for the highlight Durian Buffet (RM98), where you can feast on unlimited servings of premium varieties such as Mao Shan Wang (MSW), Black Thorn, Red Prawn and more!

You can expect the freshest durians from the buffet, as they are sourced directly from one of JB’s largest durian orchards. Don’t worry about the heat either, as the buffet will take place under ventilated shade.

For family fun beyond the buffet, look forward to a plethora of durian-themed events. There will be a lineup of stalls offering durian-inspired snacks and drinks, as well as a Durian Omakase where you can enjoy curated durian tastings.

Kids will love the array of Carnival Games, including a Guess The Durian Count event where you can win baskets of durians! For a hands-on activity, check out the Durian Soap-Making Workshop for a fun way to bring durian memorabilia home!

If you’re feeling competitive, you can even take part in a Durian Eating Competition, which pits you against other durian aficionados to see who can hoover up the most durians.

There will also be aesthetic, IG-worthy photo spots set up, perfect for snapping unforgettable memories with family and friends.

Plushie lovers will be looking to collect a limited-edition Durian Family Plush Toy that doubles as a reusable bag, with a minimum spend of RM688 at the carnival and the adjacent Sunway Big Box Retail Park required.

The carnival will be open from 12pm to 10pm on each day, with no pre-registration required. While the two-way shuttle bus service from Singapore organised by Sunway City is currently sold out, you can still access Sunway Big Box Retail Park via a 25-minute drive from the Tuas Checkpoint and Second Link, or a 30-minute drive from the Johor Bahru Causeway.
