Get Viral Mochi Bento Cakes With Pistachio, Orh Nee And More With Your CDC Vouchers

Sweedy Patisserie has Korean-inspired mochi cakes in Hougang

Remember the trendy matcha desserts and banana pudding matcha from Sweedy Patisserie? The homegrown brand has hopped on yet another viral trend: Korean-inspired mochi cakes that are jiggly, stretchy, and oh-so-sweet. Here’s the best part: CDC Vouchers are accepted at this cafe!

Available on Fridays through Sundays, the Mochi Bento Cakes comprise layers of soft sponge cake wrapped in a bouncy, supple mochi skin. There are five variations to try, each starting from $14.80.

The Strawberry Cream ($14.80) was the tamest of the lot, with sweet, tangy strawberry jam and filling, topped with a fresh strawberry. It was delightfully fruity without being overly sweet, thanks to the neutrally flavoured mochi skin.

We particularly enjoyed the Crispy Pistachio ($15.80), which was topped with a generous amount of crushed pistachios. This imparted earthy and nutty flavours—alongside a variety of textures from crunchy to squishy—to each bite of the mochi cake.

Our favourite was the Horlick Dinosaur ($14.80), which was dusted heavily with Horlicks powder and accompanied by frosted cornflakes. Our childhood memories came flooding in with each bite, as the malty flavours evoked waves of nostalgia. It was rich, sweet, and did not disappoint.

The Creme Brulee ($15.80) was visually impressive with its crispy caramelised sugar top, packing a piquant toasted flavour without being too sweet. Eat quickly, though—it softens fast!

Lastly, the Orh Nee ($14.80) was a shade of pretty plum purple, but its understated appearance concealed its powerful, earthy taro flavours within.

Sweedy also has a new seasonal offering: the Orh Nee Coconut ($11.80), a blend of taro, coconut, and milk topped with a fat scoop of taro gelato.

This is for fans of the purple root; the thick drink was pure orh nee decadence, with the taro gelato being creamy and earthy, and the coconut imparting a subtle, refreshing flavour.

Don’t forget to order their popular Banana Pudding Matcha ($9.80), which made waves earlier with its prized combination of banana custard, Biscoff crumbs, and bitter matcha.

You can also find other brunch items here, such as the Breakfast Sammie ($15) and the impressive Triple Cheese Matcha Sammie ($15.80).

Sweedy Patisserie is located at Hougang Rivercourt, which is a 15-minute bus ride from Hougang MRT Station. You can also order their mochi bento cakes online from their website.
