TAG Espresso: New Orchard Cafe With Kaya Latte, Har Cheong Pork Belly And More

TAG Espresso is a new coffee cafe at Takashimaya

If you’re looking for a coffee and brunch spot to chill at in between running errands in town, one latest addition to the slew of Orchard food options is TAG Espresso. This homegrown coffee brand just launched its second outlet, a botanical-themed cafe, in Takashimaya Shopping Centre.

The cosy yet chic space boasts IG-worthy interiors, featuring a mishmash of lush greenery, concrete elements, and wood furnishings. There are only 30 seats here, so it’s best to drop by during off-peak hours if you want to snag a table.

In case you didn’t know, this is TAG Espresso’s second outlet, following their successful takeaway kiosk at Raffles City. They’re most known for their one-of-a-kind instant espresso capsule that’s made with 100% roasted Arabica beans.

All you need to do is peel open the top layer and add the ready-to-mix grounds to your choice of liquid. The coffee dissolves super easily, without the need for hot water. These game-changing capsules are now available in-store or online.

As for cafe-goers dropping by the dine-in space, they can try out their range of barista-brewed beverages.

The Kaya Pandan Latte ($9++) is a signature here; this layered drink features pandan essence, double espresso, and a creamy kaya topping that isn’t too sweet.

Else, those who are lactose-intolerant can get the refreshing Pineapple Black ($7++), starring juicy pineapple chunks with soda water and two shots of espresso. We also enjoyed the Mint Latte ($7++), lightly sweetened with a faint peppermint fragrance.

Food-wise, tuck into light bites such as Shrimp Paste Pork Belly ($14.90++), perfect for sharing with the fam. Pair the umami-rich pork slices with the sharp mustard for the perfect contrast of flavours!

The crispy Tako Kaarage ($14.90++) is another crowd favourite that features bite-sized octopus chunks marinated with a mix of shoyu and dashi, deep-fried to crisp ends.

Those who want something more substantial can order Fish and Chips ($24.90++) as their main. You get two hefty battered cod pieces, piled with fries and served alongside a coffee-lime aioli. Fun fact: the dip is made with TAG Espresso’s Midnight Blue coffee grounds!

Otherwise, if you’re craving Asian food, their Smoky Fried Rice ($16.80++) will be up your alley. This comprises short-grain rice fried with smoked bacon, prawn, egg, and a punchy chilli oil. A sunny-side up completes the hearty dish.

Round up your meal with an indulgent side of French Toast ($16.90++): three thick slices of toast served with vanilla ice cream, assorted berries, and chocolate sauce on the side.

TAG Espresso is a three-minute walk from Orchard MRT Station. For more food in the area, read all about Morinaga Izakaya Restaurant, an under-the-radar Japanese eatery in Midpoint Orchard. There’s also Maddie’s Kitchen, a hidden zi char spot in Far East Plaza with legit beef hor fun!
