We’ve got exciting news for dessert lovers: Takashimaya has unveiled their first Japan Sweets Fair at Basement 2 Food Hall, running from now till 30 April 2025! The new food fair in Orchard, held from 10am to 9:30pm daily, sees both traditional and modern desserts.
If you’re a big fan of the matcha latte trend, you’ll be happy to know that the Kyoto-famous Ippodo Tea has a kiosk at the fair. The tea producer has been around for over 300 years, and are known for their premium matcha powders. Highlights include the Horai-no-mukashi Matcha (from $30), said to boast vegetal flavours and a mild taste, and Ummon-no-mukashi Matcha (from $50), known to be one of the richest powders with a strong umami.
Staff from the Kyoto tea shop are running the pop-up, so you can ask them all your burning questions about matcha!
For snacks, check out Nishikido‘s kiosk, where you’ll find momiji AKA Japanese cakes shaped like a maple leaf. These confectioneries are priced from $2.90 to $3.90.
Those who love mochi should also visit Akumo Dango for their Warabimochi ($9.80), available in flavours such as Brown Sugar and Matcha, or Daifuku ($4.80)—soft mochi stuffed with assorted fillings.
Don’t miss out on i-Waffle, where you’ll find a lineup of dessert waffle sandwiches in flavours including Pumpkin and Caramel Macchiato, priced from $2.90. We featured them at the Takashimaya Japan Summer Food Fair back in 2023!
Otherwise, you won’t go wrong with some freshly prepared Taiyaki from Shichifukujin, priced from $3.50 to $8 per piece.
The fair runs till 30 April 2025, so head down before it’s too late!
In related food news, Haidilao has a meat buffet across its outlets, priced at just $19.90++ per person. You can also check out the new Chicken McWraps that’ve been recently launched at McDonald’s!
