The Oyster Bank Has Cheap Kimchi Oysters, Wagyu Rice Bowls And More In Funan

The Oyster Bank has oysters, lunch bowls and more in Funan

You might have heard of oyster bar The Oyster Bank and their range of flavoured raw and baked oysters, but just in case you thought that was all, it really isn’t. If you work in the City Hall vicinity, they’ve got pretty affordable and satisfying donburi, which come with a free drink and miso soup every day from 11:30am to 2:30pm!

Tucked in a corner of the second floor of the mall, The Oyster Bank draws inspiration from Japanese cuisine, zhnging up their dishes to cater to Singaporeans’ love for punchy, spicy flavours. With both low seats for cosy dining and higher bar seats for that chill after-work sesh with cocktails and oysters, it’s a pretty choice option whatever the meal.

Start with an order of Yuzu Kosho Negitoro Cone ($18.90++), which comes as a trio of charcoal cones generously loaded with tuna tartare and a smattering of ikura. The surprise comes at the bottom of the cone, holding a creamy, zesty yuzu kosho cream cheese.

The Oyster Bank has five kinds of flavoured raw oysters, available at $4.75++ each, or in larger orders of half a dozen ($4.65++ each) or a dozen ($4.55++ each). Choose from Kimchi Cucumber, Ginger Lime, Classic Mignonette, or the chef’s recommendations of Grapefruit Ponzu or Tosazu Kombu, where tosazu refers to a Japanese dressing of vinegar, soya sauce, mirin, and dashi.

If you’re a purist, go for the Naked ($3.95++/$3.85++/$3.75++) oysters instead. Come between 5pm and 8pm on Mondays to Fridays, you could order up to half a dozen Naked oysters are just $2 each with any alcoholic drink! This goes up to three dozen if you’re getting a bottle of wine, sake or liquor—the promotion is valid all day on weekends too.

Accompany your oysters with a Baked Camembert ($19.90++) for something warm and comforting; you get a 125g wheel of the creamy cow’s milk cheese baked to oozing, molten ends and topped with honey. It’s paired with crackers and honey-glazed walnuts too.

Spoil yourself without wrecking your wallet with one of their rice bowls, and if you can never make up your mind, The Oyster Bank has got you covered with their Half & Half Bowls: ½ Salmon Don ½ Scallop Don ($20.90++) or ½ Bara Chirashi Don ½ Spicy Salmon Don ($17.90++), which we got to try.

This second option is laden with finely cubed salmon sashimi tossed in their signature spice mix, which we loved for its piquant creaminess, balanced out by chunky cubes of salmon, tuna, and tamago.

For something fancier, consider the Wagyu Beef Karubi Don ($24.90++), where 120g of M5 Wagyu karubi is lightly sauteed and laid on a bed of rice, alongside shoyu shiitake mushrooms and an onsen egg. It’s lent umami by the crispy fried garlic that’s sprinkled atop to finish, and a touch of spice from pickled ginger. You could top up $3++ if you’re feeling fancy to upgrade the rice to Truffled Rice too!

If you’re hanging around this mall after work, check out Funan’s after-6pm deals, which include 1-for-1 cakes and more! Alternatively, we’ve got a Funan dining guide that you could keep handy for when you’re visiting the City Hall spot.
