Once again, hereā€™s another stall in Old Airport Road Food Centre to prove that they are one of the best hawker centres in Singapore. If youā€™re ever near the area in the morning, you have to visit Toast Hut, which is said to have one of the best kaya toasts and traditional coffee in Singapore!

Toast Hut is managed by Melvin Soh, who ventured into the hawker industry when he was just 23 years old. The stallā€™s old-school menu may be simple, but itā€™s a nostalgic treat for those who want to relive the good olā€™ days. However, be prepared for long queues and waiting times, and donā€™t feel sad to have missed out if you show up lateā€”they are usually sold out before 10am.Ā

Enjoy Toast Hutā€™s rendition of Yakun Set A with their very own Set A ($3.60), which is a favourite among many of the stallā€™s regulars. Take your pick of toast filling from Kaya Butter, Butter Sugar, or Peanut Butter. You can enjoy the crispy toast on its own or dip it into the soft-boiled eggsā”as it should be done. Finally, wash it all down with a cup of kopi. Their coffee is said to be fragrant, robust, and not overly sweet, which is great for those who prefer their kopi siu dai.Ā

For something more filling, go for Set C ($3.80), which features a soft, Hainanese-style bun instead. This chonky bun boasts fluffy, soft insides, and is generously slathered with kaya and butter for a satisfying combination of taste and texture. This set also includes the standard two soft-boiled eggs and a choice of kopi or teh, or you can choose to enjoy the kaya-butter bun on its own for just $1.60.

If one set isnā€™t enough for you, go big with their other bread options including Ham And Cheese Sandwich ($2.40), Tuna Sandwich ($2.40), and Ham And Egg Sandwich ($2.40).Ā

For more traditional kopi and toasts to try, check out Tong Ah Eating House, an 80-year-old coffee shop with famous kaya French toast. Alternatively, for another stall you must try at Old Airport Road Food Centre, visit Western Barbecue, which has old-school Hainanese Western food!
