Char siew and siew yoke fans would be familiar with 88 Hong Kong Roast Meat Specialist, a popular stall helmed by an ex-restaurant chef. This stall is also a hit among the Eatbook team—just ask any of us what our favourite roast meat stall is, and the answer will likely be a unanimous “88 Hong Kong”. If you’ve always been deterred by their snaking queues at both outlets during peak lunchtimes, you can now look forward to dining at their new restaurant in the CBD!

According to 8days.sg, the upcoming restaurant will be located in Far East Square, which is right next to Telok Ayer MRT Station. A brand representative from 88 Hong Kong Roast Meat Specialist has also confirmed over the phone that there will be “more than 100 seats”, and that it’ll be in an “air-conditioned restaurant setting”. That’s great news, as patrons won’t need to worry about having to chope a table during peak hours.

The menu will largely be the same, but the team will roll out new items eventually, after the official launch in mid-March 2023. The brand representative also mentioned that the price of each dish will be around $1 higher than at the other two outlets, as this will be a fully-fledged restaurant.

If it’s your first time trying their food, we recommend going for the Roasted Pork and Char Siew Rice (price TBD), starring their uber-charred, fatty char siew and crispy siew yoke, drenched in their signature sweet-sticky sauce over a bed of white rice.

The roast meat stall also offers roast duck, charcoal-roasted till perfection: think slick, glistening skin and juicy, tender meat within. You can opt for springy egg noodles instead of rice, the former tossed in a fragrant lard oil mix.

In the meantime, while waiting for the official launch of their restaurant, check out their two other outlets: Lavender Street and Tyrwhitt Road.

If you’re looking for more food in the CBD, check out our Phat Fingers review for affordable Korean fried chicken, juicy burgers, and rice bowls right next door! Everything is prepared to order, with prices under $10 for mains.

Otherwise, there’s also Kinber Kopi, a hidden sandwich cafe in Hong Leong Building, which is a three-minute walk from Telok Ayer MRT Station. This casual eatery serves fuss-free sando and cheap kopi, great for those who work in the area!

Address: 19 China Street, Far East Square, Singapore 049561
Opening hours: TBD
