If you’re looking for Michelin-level date spots at affordable prices, Alkove Bistro is the place to be. Located in the heart of Kovan, the French-inspired cafe has a 1-for-1 weekday lunch deal with dishes starting from $13.90++, as well as a set dinner promotion!
Alkove is led by renowned Chef Haikal Johari, who headed Alma by Juan Amador, and currently helms one-Michelin-starred Avant in Bangkok, which he started in 2023. Given these accolades, you can bet that the food here is top-class.Â
Residents of Kovan might recognise Alkove in its former iteration: Ice Edge Cafe, which had been standing since 2011 and was immensely popular for their weekday 1-for-1 promotion. The restaurant has maintained the deal even after rebranding following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 1-for-1 deal runs on weekdays, 11:30am to 4pm, and requires diners to first order a drink, which is not subject to the promotion. After which, diners can enjoy 1-for-1 for all mains, sides, and desserts in any combination of their choosing.
The cheapest main you can enjoy on the 1-for-1 menu is their Beef Bolognese ($13.90++), a simple yet comforting pasta dish. With the promotion, you’re only paying $7++ for each portion! Their signature pasta entries include the Tiger Prawn Aglio Olio ($19.90++) and the Crispy Baby Quid Ink Spaghetti ($21.90++).Â
Those wanting an elevated meal can go for their Duck Leg Confit ($29.90++) and the Pan-Seared Barramundi ($29.90++). Keep in mind that prices listed are before the discount!
Starters you can go for include their signature White Truffle Mushroom Soup ($10.90++) and the French Onion Miso Soup ($12.90++), a bold take on the classic French entry. You can also get the Crispy Winglets ($9.90++) with cincalok or buffalo sauce, or the Oyster Mushroom Chips ($10.90++) with garlic aioli as light bites instead.Â
End the meal with dessert options such as the Waffle with Ice Cream ($12.90++) and the Shibuya Toast ($13.90++): thick buttered toast with a scoop of ice cream.Â
If you’re here for dinner from 5:30pm onwards, you can enjoy a Dinner Set that includes a complimentary starter, side, and dessert with every selected main ordered!Â
