We’ve seen mochi waffles and croffles, appear in recent years, but are you familiar with the “waffich”? Essentially a cross between a waffle and a sandwich, this novel dish is now available at Aureffle, a relatively new dessert spot along Kandahar Street, or a walk away from Bugis MRT Station.
Several videos have gone viral featuring Aureffle’s fare, and considering the colourful dishes they have on offer, that comes as no surprise. Aureffle is Muslim-owned as well, so you can take your Muslim friends to enjoy the treats here.
So, what makes a waffwich? Unlike your usual waffle with a spread, a waffwich is PACKED with a filling to the point that it crosses the threshold from a pure waffle to something in between.
The Pistachio Luxe ($7.90), for instance, is just slathered in a rich pistachio spread, with pistachio crumbs generously coating its surface. It’s sweet, thoroughly decadent, and full of the nutty goodness of pistachio. The waffles themselves are also airy and tender, though it lacks in that crispy exterior that can make some waffles a delight.
You can also pair your waffwich with gelato and other sweet toppings DIY-style, as we have done with the Kit Kat Crunch ($7.90). This item was already saccharine enough with its generous chocolate spread and KitKat bars, but we decided to add a scoop of Fairy Floss Gelato (+$1) too. With the flavour profile of both bubblegum and cotton candy, the waffwich was almost a cacophony of sweet flavours.
Aside from waffwiches and accompanying drinks, Aureffle also offers mini pancakes such as the Biscoff Lover ($10.90). Unsurprisingly, this treat is also quite maximalist, with copious amounts of Biscoff and even marshmallows layered over the pancakes. If you have a sweet tooth, this new spot may just be your next haunt.
