Cafe Lilac By Whisking Bakes: Taro Pork Floss Sando, Orh Nee Choux And More

Cafe Lilac by Whisking Bakes has new yam desserts and sandos

When we reviewed Whisking Bakes last year, we were impressed with their range of taro-infused desserts. This time, they have refreshed their looks and expanded their dining space! Now rebranded as Cafe Lilac by Whisking Bakes, the cafe has rolled out all-new orh nee items, including a splendid array of cakes, pastries, and even a savoury menu.

The cafe is still located on the same premise—they’ve just taken some space from their previous kitchen to accommodate more seats. The renovated area is clean, bright, and spacious, with the addition of cosy sofa seats for those who want to lounge. Rattan furniture and wooden tables add warmth to the minimalist interiors, which see pops of lilac to match the purple theme.

There’s a new hot food section, with simple fare such as sandwiches, priced from just $5.50. A must-try is the Taro Pork Floss Sando ($5.50), a sweet-savoury combination of house-made orh nee with pork floss, sandwiched between freshly toasted bread.

You can also fill up on their All Day Mini Breakfast ($8.50), which comprises two slices of toast with taro jam, two mini chicken sausages, a fried egg, bacon, and salad. Everything on the hot food menu is priced under $9, so you don’t feel the pinch when dining here.

If you’re only here for the desserts, we recommend their Taro Choux ($8): choux pastry with a sweet craquelin topping, generously piped with orh nee-infused cream.

The cream is rich and mousse-like, with a distinct yam flavour, pairing well with the light and crispy puff shell.

Also new on the dessert front is the Taro Crepe Cake ($8), which comprises around 20 thin layers of taro crepe, layered with orh nee cream.

This cake is not too sweet, so it’ll be perfect as a midday pick-me-up without the sugar crash.

Wash everything down with their creamy Taro Einspanner ($6.50) that pairs freshly pulled espresso with a thick, yam-spiked foam. There’s also a new Lilac Lemonade ($5) if you prefer something refreshing.

Request to have the lemon juice served on the side, so you can pour it on your own and watch the colour of the drink change to a gorgeous purple hue.

All prices are nett, which means you won’t have to break the bank here!

If you’re in the mood for old-school kopi instead, head to Heap Seng Leong just down the road from Cafe Lilac by Whisking Bakes. Otherwise, check out the nearby Simple Cafe for Taiwan-inspired pastries in Lavender.
