Gone are the days when you can say “there’s nothing to do in Singapore.” Nearly every other week, there’s a new food fair or event happening around town. That being said, there’s nothing quite like this new glamping-themed beer event happening at Changi City Point. Coined Say Cheers to Beer, the kicky event brings good food, a bevvy of beer, and great vibes to the East.
Happening from 11 to 20 October 2019, the Open Plaza at Changi City Point has transformed into a glamorous campsite, with colourful beanbags strewn over faux grass and two gorgeous teepee tents!
Beer is the main focus of this glamping event and you will find six types of interesting brew here. Creatures of habit can enjoy an ice-cold bottle of Sapporo, while craft beer fans can look forward to brews such as Stone & Wood Pacific Ale, Pirate Life Throwback IPA, and Garage Project Gargista.
Each bottle costs $8 no matter what brand you choose. If you’re coming with friends, mix and match five bottles at $35. My personal favourite is the Stone & Wood Pacific Ale for its crisp and fruity notes. A refreshing beer to have as you glamp out.
While there’s no campfire to roast marshmallows, you can still expect to find hearty BBQ food by Big Bern’s American Grill to line your belly with. Sink your teeth into their Black Pepper Chicken Burger ($6.50) featuring a massive slab of tender chicken breast slathered in mushroom sauce. It’s nestled between a sesame-seed bun and comes complete with lettuce, onions, and tomatoes.
If you prefer something more luxe to match your glamping experience, there’s also a Louisana Crab Roll ($12). Here, a buttered hotdog bun is stuffed with juicy crab meat tossed in mayonnaise, celery, dill, and lemon juice. Its light and refreshing flavour pair well with a can of IPA.
Other dishes on the menu include the Whoopass Chilli Dawg ($12), Black Pepper Chicken Burger ($6.50) as well as BBQ Chicken Wings ($4.50 for two pieces).
The wings, which are slathered in a house-made BBQ sauce, are worth sharing with a friend.
All mains come with a complimentary serving of side, namely coleslaw, pasta salad, and buttered dill rice. Any additional order of sides will be priced at $1.50.
There will also be games to try your hand including Ping Pong Shoot, Bottle Cap Toss, and Bottle Stand. Winners will get to walk away with a $5 Frasers’ Disposable Gift Card or a bottle of Beer from MOA Tiki New Zealand Bar & Grill at #01-70/71.
I personally felt the Bottle Cap Toss was the toughest game to beat. In order to win, you will need to ensure your bottle cap lands on the square with a star! This game definitely requires skill and plenty of luck.
Beer pong masters should opt for the Ping Pong Shot, where you get two chances to land a ping pong ball in a cup!
Aside from games, there will also be live performances every Friday and Saturday. Chris and Diana featuring Chantal will be hitting the stage on 11 and 18 October 2019, while The Parachutes will be belting out the hottest hits on 12 and 19 October 2019. All performances will run from 7pm to 7:45pm and 8:15pm and 9pm, so make your way down then!
Whether you’re a beer lover or not, Say Cheers to Beer glamping event is 100% worth heading down for, thanks to the kicky ambience, tasty food, and entertainment lineup.
Located one MRT stop away from Changi Airport at Expo MRT station, Changi City Point has plenty of restaurants and branded outlet shops such as Adidas, Nike, and Fila!
As such, even though the event starts at 4pm, we recommend swinging by Changi City Point earlier, as the first 50 shoppers who spend a minimum of $50 daily will receive a food coupon and one chance at any of the game booths!
Do note that redemption is not at the fair but at the Customer Service counter on Level 2. The food coupon is also only valid for the Lite Beef Cheese Burger or the Black Pepper Chicken Burger.
