Whenever I travel with my foodie friends, we make an effort to discover the local food scene. But funnily enough, we’d always find ourselves craving a cup of kopi C or bowl of Katong laksa by the third day of the trip. That’s why we’re always glad to come across Singaporean outposts such as Singapulah. Located in London’s Soho district, the popular restaurant not only caters to homesick Singaporeans—it has also won over locals with familiar classics such as laksa and nasi lemak.
Opened by chef and restaurateur Ellen Chew, the two-year-old restaurant is part of her wider mission to showcase the exciting flavours of Singaporean cuisine to a global audience. In fact, she makes it a point to source ingredients from homegrown brands, including Dodo for fish balls and Kwong Cheong Thye for soya sauce and sambal chilli.
Since opening in 2024, the restaurant has amassed over 1.8K reviews and an impressive 4.4– star rating on Google at the time of writing, with patrons praising the great service, flavourful dishes, and generous portion sizes.
A standout here is the Singapore Laksa (GBP16.95+/SGD28.98+): a warm, comforting bowl of rich, spicy, and aromatic coconut curry broth with QQ bee tai mak, fresh prawns, sliced fishcakes, bean sprouts, tau pok, and a creamy hard-boiled egg.
The Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng (GPB16.95+/SGD28.98+) is another crowd pleaser, starring fragrant coconut rice, served alongside a runny sunny-side up egg, toasted peanuts, ikan bilis, spicy sambal, and the star of the plate, a crispy, juicy, and flavourful fried chicken leg marinated in rempah and a blend of spices.
Don’t miss out on their signature Singapulah Bak Chor Mee (GPB16.95+/SGD28.98+), featuring springy mee pok tossed in spicy sambal, then topped with juicy braised mushrooms, bouncy fish balls, minced pork, crispy pork lard, dried flatfish, and torched pork belly slices. Of course, you also get a delicious bowl of pork broth on the side.
Besides the mains, they’ve also got several desserts on the menu, including the Kaya Ice Cream Toast (GPB4.95+/SGD8.46+), where a refreshing scoop of kaya ice cream, made with pandan and coconut milk, is paired with crispy and fluffy buttered toast sticks.
Diners can also visit their in-house Singapulah Mama Shop to take home some authentic Singaporean snacks and souvenirs, including a tub of Udders Mao Shan Wang Durian Ice Cream (GPB15.95/SGD27.27) and a packet of Coffee Gao Gao – Kosong (GPB4.95/SGD8.46) from home-grown brewery Coffee Hock.
Singapulah is located along Shaftesbury Avenue in Soho, a quick six-minute walk from Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square Underground Stations. It’s also within walking distance of Covent Garden Underground Station.
