The festive season always calls for a scramble for the most value-for-money yet delicious food. I always get a headache racking my brains just thinking of what to bring to the Christmas table. Especially when you are a writer for a website like Eatbook, the pressure is there to bring impressive food finds to the party. Here is a list of 10 places with affordable takeaway menus to tide you through your Yuletide festivities.

French eatery Garcons is serving up a Christmas takeaway menu that is easy on the wallet, but still great in the taste department. They are offering a French Roasted Whole Chicken ($19+) that comes along with roast potato, sauteed mushroom, and Chardonnay cream sauce. The chicken is crispy-skinned and would be a sure hit with the young and old alike. Not forgetting their Signature Crispy Pork Belly Confit With Balsamic Glaze ($50+/kg) – holding a thick crunch on the top followed by a tasty and flavourful slab of meat, this would fare well with any salad on the Christmas table.

Replicate your own baked camembert, cheese board, and wine combo by bringing back goodies from The Cheese Artisans. Due to its hand-ladling process, the Camembert De Normandie AOC ($25) has a soft texture. Preheat the oven, make incisions on the top, and stuff fresh thyme and garlic into them. Give the cheese a quick 10-minute bake and serve with toasted bread. For a European touch, get a Classic Panettone ($35) which is usually found on every Italian Christmas table as well.

These days, cafes are popping up here and there, but closing down as quickly as they appeared. Kith has come a long way since they opened their very first outlet at Park Mall. The food they serve is hearty and generous. The festive menu features a deboned Stuffed Roasted Chicken ($45+) which is great news for lazy partygoers like myself who stay away from chicken wings and all crustaceans at parties. Stuffed silly with turkey ham, walnut, olives, and sun-dried tomatoes, it sounds like a great addition to the table already.

Yum Cha Restaurant is offering their seasonal festive dim sum that is sure to put you and your guests in a good mood. Get your sweet fix with edible Snowman Bao ($3.80) with lotus paste filling. If you’re more of a savoury kind of person, get an equally adorable baked Roasted Turkey Bun ($3.80) which is loaded with chicken, turkey bacon, turkey ham, onions, and spices. Take note that these Christmas additions are only available in Chinatown and Changi outlets, and Yum Cha Express online.

I never say ‘no’ to more meats for the Christmas table. If anything, I welcome them with open arms. Other than the usual turkey, ribs too make a finger-licking addition. Morganfields is serving their full slab of ribs with a Christmas twist this year. Take a pick between Hazelnut Sticky Bones Full Slab ($42.90+) and Cranberry Sticky Bones Full Slab ($42.90+). The former being made from Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar ale, and the latter made with sweet cranberries. Both of which sound like they could pass off as a Christmas Frappuccino.

Antoinette offers the epitome of pretty desserts. Not only are they a pleasure to look at, they also fare well in the taste department. What blew my breath away this Christmas is their Snow Globe ($15+). Don’t tip this pretty thing over though! This 10cm-wide snow globe is just Antoinette’s clever way of serving a mousse cake. It is a vanilla cream cheese mousse with raspberry marmalade, passionfruit cream, almond nougatine, and finger sponge with kirsch. This dessert is sure to put a smile on your hosts’ faces.

The Marmalade Pantry is my go-to place for desserts, and this is because their desserts are always on point – or “O.P.” as my colleague likes to put it. I highly recommend their Baked Lemon Meringue Tart ($35+). It would be such a pretty centerpiece to the potluck table. Truffle Mac and Cheese ($20+) is another item on the menu which caught my eye. It is done with a trio of parmesan, truffle butter, and blue cheese.

If your guests like to throw out their pizza crusts, stop them in their tracks with Pizza Hut’s new stuffed-crust pizzas. The crusts are loaded with parmesan and cheddar-flavoured mozzarella. Stick to the classics with a Knotty Cheesy Hawaiian ($26.90 for regular, $32.90 for large), or go for Knotty Cheesy BBQ ($26.90 for regular, $32.90 for large) if you have pineapple pizza #haters amongst your posse.

I used to frequent Saybons on the weekends when it first opened 10 years ago at Plaza Singapura. Back then it was intriguing that crepes came in savoury options, and soups came in paper cups like those used for coffee. They have since evolved and are serving more than just savoury crepes, and soups now even come in party soup containers for easy clean-up. Two litres of their hearty soups start from $36, with flavours such as Fresh Tomato, Wild Mushroom, and Broccoli Cheddar. You can get their assortment of mini quiches ($34) to be served with the soups too.
