Whenever “Clarke Quay” is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is clubbing. However, besides housing Zouk and F Club, Clarke Quay is also home to plenty of food gems. Besides the already famous Hai Di Lao, here are some Clarke Quay food gems to help you fuel up.
The Salted Plum is top in the list of Clarke Quay food gems. This eatery serves up Taiwanese-inspired food with everything priced at multiples of five – $5+, $10+, $15+, $25+. Apart from their famous Lu Rou Fan ($10+), The Salted Plum also offers other types of rice bowls such as Burnt Chilli Chicken Rice ($10+) and Seared Salmon Bowl ($10+), which are only available during lunch hours. If you’re heading down for dinner, fret not as you can get sharing portions of the burnt chilli chicken and other delicious dishes such as Salted Pork ($5+). Not matter what you order, be sure to also get a bowl of their Shiny Rice ($0.50+) that is drizzled with lard and garlic oil.

Following the popular food trends in Singapore, Foodsmith adds twists to the Western food they offer. One of them would be their Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Burger ($8.90), which features juicy deep-fried chicken thigh covered in thick salted egg yolk sauce. Joining in the fun is their Truffle Mushroom Beef Burger ($10.90). The mushrooms are cooked in a generous amount of truffle oil, which explains the burger’s strong fragrance.

Ramen Champion serves bowls of their Special Tonkotsu Pink Ramen ($15.80++), with a pink broth that’s made up of beetroot and blueberries. The saltiness of the tonkotsu broth was lightened by the sweetness of both the beetroot and blueberries. And for something fiery to the taste buds, there’s the Magma Ramen ($14.80++). The name itself already sounds menacing, and the broth is made using capsicum peppers, Japanese black pepper, chilli padi, chilli oil, Korean chilli flakes, and Japanese chilli flakes. There are 20 levels of spiciness for you to choose from!

This cafe is modeled after the actual set and you can feel as though you are part of the sitcom as you dine. When I was younger, I didn’t really like Japanese food. I recall my mother dragging me to Marutama Ramen in an attempt to change my perception of Japanese food and boy was she successful. I had their Katsuo Shoyu Ramen ($12++) simply because I was intrigued by the huge piece of seaweed in the picture. I got to thank that seaweed as I had my very first taste of what good ramen should comprise – a light savoury broth, springy noodles, and succulent cha shu. So if you’re craving for something filling before a night of partying, check out this place for a satisfying bowl of ramen!

The American-style corn dogs we are familiar with are made up of sausages surrounded by a thick layer of deep-fried cornmeal batter. However, the corn dogs over at Korea are different, which is what inspired stall owner, Minho, to open up Gangnam Corndog in Singapore. Some interesting flavours are Mozza Corndog ($4.90) and Squid Ink Corndog ($4.90). Both corn dogs contain melted mozzarella cheese that will leave you stretching your arm out and pulling your head back several times.

While most people go to Clarke Quay for clubbing and drinking sessions, I go there for food instead. Clarke Quay has too many good eateries and what’s best is that some of these food places open till late! For more food places near Clarke Quay, check out Chinatown Complex or Maxwell Food Centre!
