Four Seasons Durians has recently opened an all-new concept called Four Seasons Durians Restaurant at Jewel Changi Airport, serving savoury dishes, desserts, and drinks featuring premium Mao Shan Wang (MSW) durian.
Fun fact: the staff and chefs are huge fans of the King of Fruits, so you can trust them to whip up an impressive durian-inspired menu.
On 15 and 16 June 2019, ShopBack GO users get to enjoy their Durian Hotpot (U.P. $35++) at only $1++! This exclusive deal is held in conjunction with ShopBack GO’s official launch on 12 June 2019, happening within the ShopBack app. Every two diners will be entitled to one order of the $1++ hot pot and also a 5% cashback on their total bill.
MSW durian is known for its sweet yet pungent flesh and buttery texture. This makes it a surprisingly apt ingredient for savoury dishes, such as this durian hot pot.
Radiating a bittersweet aroma as the broth bubbles, the durian flesh adds a depth of flavour to the otherwise predominantly sweet chicken stock. It is served with a platter of typical hot pot ingredients namely beef, chicken, fish, oysters, clams, tofu, enoki mushrooms, noodles, and a plethora of vegetables.
The best of the bunch for me would be the thick fish slices, which paired well with the sweet broth. I sadly found myself hankering for more, as there were only three pieces in the mix. Variety is the name of the game here, as my disappointment soon dissipated when I eyed the beef slices, chicken chunks, huge clams, and plump oysters pucker in the soup.
Complete your meal by ordering their Kampung Mao Shan Wang Durian Fried Rice ($18++) as well. Generously giving up its aromatic essences, this plate of pearl rice is wok-fried with clams, crabmeat, shallots, sambal terasi, and of course, durian.
The contrast between the punch from the durian and spice from the sambal made it all the more delicious. Topped up with juicy grilled chicken, the dish is a must-order when you’re at the restaurant.
Four Seasons Durians is a household name; synonymous with durian pancakes and durian puffs, which are must-haves at every pot luck party. You can expect the same quality of desserts here. Insanely soft, their Fantasy Mao Shan Wang Mochi ($14++) are each jacked with an intense yet creamy durian filling which knocked my socks off.
For a beautiful play of textures and tastes, order their Crispy Durian Roll ($9++). Encased in a deep-fried panko crust is thick durian paste, further flavoured by the salty addition of melted mozzarella. This is one dish I can easily wipe clean on my own.
Four Seasons Durians Restaurant is the first place in Singapore where you can openly consume the King of Fruits fresh in a mall. Forget about having your durians switched from under the counters at dishonest durian stores outside. Choose your premium mountain top MSW durians ($22/kg) here with confidence and enjoy it in a comfortable restaurant setting.
Instead of brushing it off as gimmicky, I would say the restaurant is best suited for true fans of durian. Service is attentive and charming; prices are stated clearly and the dining room is suitably chic for a nice meal with large groups. You know you’re paying for quality food and service.
Four Seasons Durians Restaurant is one of over 600 restaurants currently on ShopBack GO, with plenty more on the way. In case you’ve been out of the loop, ShopBack GO earns you cashback every single time you dine at a partner restaurant! This on top of amazing dining deals such as this $1 durian hot pot.
