Ellenborough Market Café: Hotel Buffet By The River With Authentic Peranakan Food And Ambience

Ellenborough Market Café at Clarke Quay

Situated in Swissôtel Merchant Court, Singapore, Ellenborough Market Café offers a unique buffet spread, specialising in Peranakan cuisine. Apart from delicious Peranakan food, there is also an international spread available, serving Korean, Japanese, Western dishes and more.

To entice you further, they are offering Eatbook readers a 20% discount from now until 31 October 2021! To enjoy this promotion, simply quote “Eatbook” when you’re making your reservation.

Start your meal with their Peranakan appetisers, which include Chilli Crab Kueh Pie Tee, Otak-Otak, and a Nyonya Rojak. With their unique a la carte buffet concept, watch the chefs in action as they prepare your food fresh upon ordering.

Taking a local spin on traditional kueh pie tee, their chilli crab version comes with a kick of spice, and bright, tangy notes, making this a delectable appetiser that will tantalise your taste buds and leave you craving more.

Top the pretty Butterfly Blue Pea Coconut Rice with a tender piece of Beef Rendang for an aromatic mouthful. They also have Chap Chye, Nyonya Curry Fish Head, and Opor Babi with rich and flavourful gravies, making them suitable pairings for the fragrant blue pea rice.

From their Asian and local food selection is the Singapore Laksa with River Prawn, featuring a thick, coconut-infused laksa broth, topped with two decently sized, crispy fried prawns. Do note that this dish is only available during their dinner buffet, which is held between 6:30pm and 10pm

Fans of Korean food will be delighted to try their Mul Naengmyeon—refreshing and QQ cold noodles in an icy broth, finished with seaweed and cucumber. This dish is light, and works well as a palate cleanser before you continue feasting on other flavourful dishes. Within their international food section, they also have a Maguro and Salmon Platter, and a Beef Bolognese Pasta

Those with a sweet tooth can indulge in the great variety of desserts here. Choose from local delights including Ice Chendol and Orh Nee, or Peranakan favourites such as their Assorted Nyonya Kueh, Nyonya Bubur Cha Cha, and the signature Durian Pengat. They even serve New York Cheesecake and Chocolate Eclairs, which kids will definitely adore.

The most popular option here is the Durian Pengat, made with thick durian paste doused in decadent gula melaka, and coconut milk. The slight bitterness from the durian contrasts the sweetness of the gula melaka, making this a well-balanced and palatable dessert.

The interior design of the restaurant screams vintage Peranakan, allowing diners a full cultural experience when they dine in. The ambience also makes this place an IG-worthy spot for you to zhng your feed with unique and old school-looking pictures. Ellenborough Market Café is also located right next to the Singapore River, so you can opt to take a relaxing stroll with your family after a satisfying meal here.

The 20% off promotion for Eatbook readers only runs till 31 October, so hurry and make your reservation if you don’t want to miss this affordable buffet fix!
