Chinese New Year means you’re faced with options aplenty on where to dine and what to eat. Most of these items tend to be pretty standard zi char fare, so if you want to take your reunion dinner meal a notch up, here’s a guide of unique CNY dinner menus for you.
Standing apart from the crowd, these restaurants have dishes like meat platters, Sichuanese mala fare and more to spice up your mealtimes with friends and family through CNY. Topping it off are deals that include $20 cashback e-vouchers too!
If you’re feeling like an unconventional reunion dinner option with friends, you can’t go wrong with Seoul Yummy. Located centrally in Square 2, the restaurant has recently launched sizzling barbecue hotplate platters on top of their signature army stew and Korean food offerings. Reminiscent of Korean barbecue, diners can choose from BBQ Pork Belly ($22.90++), Pork Sausages ($23.90++), Striploin ($28.90++), and BBQ Pork Belly and Striploin ($28.90++). Each comes with a vegetable medley on the side. The first three platters are exclusive to their Square 2 outlet as well.
A personal favourite was the BBQ Pork Belly and Striploin combo, pairing tender, fatty pork glazed in a sweet and spicy housemade Korean barbecue sauce with a generous serving of juicy steak. Every purchase of a platter between 3pm to 7pm daily entitles diners to two free bottles of Hite beer too.
Spend a minimum of $100 in a single receipt and get a $20 cashback e-voucher at Seoul Yummy, applicable for use during your next visit. To hit the minimum spend, you can also order dishes off their standard menu, such as their Stew So Good ($48.80++) bundle, which comes with your choice of army stew, an appetiser, and two cups of ice lemon tea, and banchan. This feeds two. An upgrade to mixed fruit tea is also available at $1.90 each.

Nothing spells CNY like a quality hotpot, so we’re here to share a secret find for authentic mala steamboat: Da Long Yi in Orchard Central. The restaurant transports you to Chengdu with its ornate decor and true-blue Sichuanese menu. Fiery mala dishes are a signature here, most notable being their Butter Mala Broth ($22 for a full pot, $9 for a half pot), which uses beef fat instead of the usual vegetable oil for a richer, more luxurious stock.
Spice lovers should get their Beef Kebabs ($8 for a half portion), which come studded with chilli seeds and powder. Also recommended to go with their hotpot are the wafer-thin Kungfu Potatoes ($8), Fresh Tripe ($18), Tender Beef ($18), and Shrimp Paste ($18).
On top of these, Da Long Yi is also home to some unique ingredients rarely found in Singapore, such as Dried Bellflower ($7), a clean-tasting vegetable that packs quite a crunch. According to the restaurant, some loyal customers call in advance to check if these veggies are available before coming down to dine.
On top of the delectable dishes, spend $100 in a single receipt here and get a $20 cashback e-voucher for your next visit!
