Sometime last year, the owner of Fiie’s Cafe went viral on social media platforms after being dubbed Mister Grumpy. But his stern demeanour isn’t all to this famed stall—Mister Grumpy is also said to sell the best nasi ayam goreng AKA fried chicken rice, according to some netizens. And recently, they opened a new outlet in Toa Payoh, which probably means you can skip the snaking long queue at their Orchard branch.

It only takes a plate of their Chicken Rice Set ($6) to understand why customers willingly join the queue even when the lunch crowd thickens. A basic set comes with a generous portion of fragrant rice that’s said to be similar to Hainanese chicken rice, a huge chicken that’s fried upon order, and a dollop of sweet-spicy sambal on the side.

If the basic set isn’t enough, you can also add a variety of side dishes to complete your meal. There’s the popular Begedel ($1) and Quail Egg ($1 for three), as well as unique options including Chicken Liver ($1 for two pieces) and Gizzard ($1 for three pieces). All side dishes are cooked and displayed on the day itself, and Mister Grumpy starts prepping in the kitchen as early as 5:30am.

Those who are tight on time can opt for takeaway by paying an additional $0.30!Â
