Friends Kitchen HK Reopens In Ang Mo Kio, Get Affordable Cha Chaan Teng Dishes Here

Friends Kitchen HK has reopened in Ang Mo Kio

Formerly occupying a two-storey shophouse along Neil Road, Friends Kitchen HK has reopened after a period of closure. You’ll now find it located in an Ang Mo Kio coffeeshop, dishing out cha chaan teng dishes at affordable prices.

The menu here is packed with Hong Kong-style eats, from zi char classics to lava toast. Many of the dishes that were available at the now-defunct Neil Road outlet have made a comeback here.

For a solid lunch option, try the Charsiew Scrambled Egg Rice ($6.50). Here, scrambled eggs and char siew slices sit atop a generous serving of rice, all of which are drizzled with a house-blended mix of lard oil and soya sauce.

Though the scrambled eggs could’ve been fluffier, we thought that overall, this was a hearty and flavourful rice dish that was elevated by the sweet char siew you see above.

If you prefer noodles, Friends Kitchen HK has options such as Beef Brisket Horfun Soup ($10). While the beef broth here could’ve been richer and more robust, we nevertheless enjoyed the silky hor fun and how nicely it soaked up the soup.

The pieces of beef brisket were excellent, thought—chunky, juicy, and really well-braised.

A dish we had no complaints about was the Lava Salted Egg French Toast ($6). With its fluffy and eggy exterior, cutting into this toast revealed a rich, savoury salted egg filling. This was a decadent treat that we think will appeal to most.

On a side note: located in the same coffeeshop is Ayah Dim Sum, a Muslim-friendly dim sum stall owned by the same folks behind Friends Kitchen HK. You may want to check it out as well.
