Get Restaurant-Quality Dim Sum By A Veteran HK Chef In Toa Payoh

Gen Shu Mei Shi Shi Jia has Hong Kong dim sum in Toa Payoh

Dim sum fans will be delighted to know of Gen Shu Mei Shi Shi Jia, a hawker stall in Toa Payoh selling a range of handmade HK-style dim sum. The stall is helmed by a masterchef from Hong Kong who has worked at numerous famous restaurants, including Mouth Restaurant and Hong Kong’s Jumbo Floating Restaurant! It’s been 20 years since this stall has been around, and even now, their dim sum remains so popular that they often sell out by mid-morning.

Their menu sees a good range of dim sum, congee, and noodles. For the dim sum, their Siew Mai (price TBD) and Fried Prawn Dumplings (price TBD) are must-tries. Many patrons have touted that their Siew Mai is generously filled with flavorful pork chunks, and that the dumpling skin is smooth with just the right amount of thickness.

You must also get their Glutinous Rice ($4.80) while you’re there. Famously known online as the “oblong-shaped lor mai gai”, their Glutinous Rice features a winning combination of mushroom, Chinese sausage, and salted egg yolk. Plus, it’s served with a side of spicy sambal!

Another popular item that patrons swear by is their Signature Yam Cake ($3.20). Here’s a tip: make your way down before 11am to ensure that you get to try this before they sell out.

Besides dim sum, you can try their Congee with Cuttlefish & Peanut ($4.80) or Congee with Century Egg & Salted Egg ($4.80). This hearty bowl of congee is said to be a popular breakfast choice!
