Sengkang fans of Genki Sushi look out! The popular sushi chain is landing in Compass One with their wallet-friendly menu this September, taking over the shop space on the first floor where Cotton On used to be.

This will be Genki Sushi’s 15th outlet in Singapore, coming just three months after the opening of their last outlet at VivoCity in June. In case you missed it, their Chinatown Point branch has also relocated to Basement One, making it so much more accessible if you’re heading there by train.

Here’s a little nugget of history for you—Genki Sushi is actually pretty old! The brand was founded way back in 1968 by a 24-year-old sushi chef who dreamt up the idea of ‘kaiten’, or revolving sushi, and pioneered the concept.

If you’ve never had the Genki Sushi experience, definitely go for their mentai-slathered options, because those are some of the most popular items on the menu, including Salmon Mentai ($3.42), Ebi Mentai ($3.42), Kani Mentai ($3.42), and even Mentai Mayo Fries ($4.82).

Their takeaway sushi platters are also a much-loved menu favourite, often spotted at potlucks and parties, back when we still had the luxury of enjoying such group events. Nonetheless, these platters, with prices ranging from $11.66 to $60.88, come in various sizes, and a good selection of sushi. These platters have options that include the much-loved mentai range, so you still can have them with your family and smaller group parties!
While you wait for September, here are other cheap sushi spots you can hit up in Singapore, with prices as low as $1.50! If not, check out sen-ryo at ION Orchard for affordable, quality Japanese food.
We visited Genki Sushi with none other than Ghib Ojisan—watch and see what he thought of his virgin Genki experience!
