We Visited A Hidden “Cave” Restaurant In Yishun With K-BBQ , XL Beef Rib Soup And More

Gochu Korean Dining & BBQ is a cave-themed restaurant

The primal urge to dine in a cave lives on, first with Cavern Restaurant early this year, and now with Gochu Korean Dining & BBQ.

This new restaurant in Yishun’s Orchid Country Club is set within cave-like interiors, with rocky walls, moody lighting, and plenty of nature surrounding the space. In terms of immersive ambience, Gochu doesn’t disappoint.

Food-wise, Gochu serves a wide variety of Korean dishes, ranging from the classics to more inventive eats. At night, the restaurant offers K-BBQ as well—but more on that later.

There seems to be an emphasis on ribs here, as seen in dishes such as the Galbitang Bansang ($30++), AKA beef short ribs soup.

While we loved the clear yet complex broth and the silky glass noodles within, it was the ribs that really stole the show. Large, juicy, and fall-off-the-bone tender, the ribs nearly justified the admittedly hefty price tag.

Ribs are again the star of the Pork Ribs Kimchi JJim Bansang ($140++), suitable for two or three diners. You can be sure that this tangy broth is packed with ingredients—kimchi, enoki mushrooms, tofu, and of course, loads of pork ribs.

By nightfall, enjoy K-BBQ options such as the Spicy Grilled Pork Ribs ($62++) and Sweet & Savory Grilled Pork Ribs ($62++), both cooked sous vide then grilled over oakwood and binchotan. This method locks in succulence while infusing each bite with smoky char and the rich flavour of their respective marinades.

For sides, Gochu’s signature dish is the Big Crispy Chili with Special Spicy Sauce ($14++)—an apt choice, considering the word “gochu” means chili pepper in Korean. A giant chilli pepper is stuffed with minced pork, tzatziki and more, then deep-fried and served with a spicy sauce.

As for drinks, Gochu has a few Korean-inspired concoctions, such as the Ginseng Highball ($14++) and Bokbunja Highball ($14++), ideal for pairing with your meal or enjoying as a post-golf treat.
