6 Halal Dim Sum Spots For Pocket-Friendly Har Gao, Siew Mai And Liu Sha Bao

Halal dim sum spots for chill meetings with the squad

Dim sum meals for me include rounds of steamed baskets of liu sha bao (salted egg custard bun), orders of egg tarts, and salted egg fried fish skin. But sometimes the dim sum cravings get out of hand, and appear only late at night. For times like that, it’s handy to have in mind dim sum places that close late. Bookmark this list of six halal dim sum eateries I found to fix those late-night cravings.

1. The Dim Sum Place

If the same old bores you, The Dim Sum Place is a spacious restaurant that throws out new creations every so often. Their Vermicelli Roll with Beef Rendang ($8.90++) uses silky soft vermicelli rolls to wrap rendang beef, jazzing up the regular chee cheong fun with spices. Mantou here isn’t deep-fried but their Baked Wasabi Buns ($3.90++) are toothsome with a drizzle of wasabi mayo. Their TDSP Cheese Tarts ($4.90++ for two pieces) sound like a must with their fresh cream, cream cheese, and mozzarella chunks topped off with pistachio bits.

2. Hong Kong Dessert

Hong Kong Dessert lies under the radar but it’s only a three-minute walk away from Ang Moh Kio MRT Station. Besides their Custard Bun ($3.20 for two pieces), their Char Siew Chicken Rice ($4.90) comes highly recommended. A bowl of moist, short-grain rice is buried by char siew chicken that’s glossy with teriyaki sauce and garnished with lots of sesame seeds. The sweet, tangy, and savoury glaze seeps into the tender, well-seasoned meat, and coats the rice with its flavour. Save space for their icy and smooth Durian Shake with Durian Flesh ($6.50), which is their best-seller!

3. 89.7 Supper Club

89.7 Supper Club has an outlet at Changi Village and another at Geylang East for lepak sessions into the wee mornings. Warm your bellies with their hot and soupy Steamed Chicken Dumpling ($3.20 for four pieces) during your long catch-up. There are 24 dim sum choices and their best-seller is Steamed Salted Egg Pau ($2.40 for two pieces). Even better, you don’t even have to get off your seat to explore your options at this kopitiam; they have an extensive menu covering all the stalls there for you to slowly decide.

4. Enak Enak Hong Kong Tea House

I go overboard with cheese especially when they come in shakers or squeeze bottles. Enak Enak Hong Kong Tea House understands that love and offers people like me their Kebab Popiah with Cheese ($7). Exactly like how it sounds, it’s a tortilla wrap with chicken kebab, cheese, fried egg, mayo, and veggies. Even better is that it comes with Cheese Fries ($5.90) on the side. You can get it to go with your dim sum feast by the sea at East Coast or at their branch at Simpang Bedok.

Address: 1202 East Coast Parkway, #01-01, East Coast Seafood Centre, Singapore 449881

5. Streats Hong Kong Cafe

Streats Hong Kong Cafe has 10 outlets scattered across the island and my all-time favourite here is their Salted Egg Yolk Pumpkin Fries ($7.80). Have the stubby sticks encased in salted egg yolk batter for sharing, or try their battered Crispy Silver Fish ($7.80) instead. Their Famous HK Fried XO Seafood Noodles ($11.80) tempts you to drop by for their range of Hong Kong dishes that come with a Singaporean twist. You can get your group to order for pick up or opt for their islandwide delivery service if your order hits $15.

Address: 180 Kitchener Road, #01-01, City Square Mall, Singapore 208539

6. Tang Tea House

The cutest thing at Tang Tea House is probably their Soup Shrimp Ball ($7.30 for two pieces) which is pierced with a bendy straw. Highly recommended are also their signature Crispy Bee Hoon ($11/$16) and Chicken Rice ($4.50). There are four outlets scattered around Singapore, and the one at Bedok opens till 3am on weekends!

Address: 357/359 Bedok Road, Singapore 4695458
