We’re always on the lookout for places offering fresh, handmade pasta in Singapore. So when LaPasta, a restaurant tucked away in the somewhat seedy Orchard Towers, appeared on our radar, we knew we had to cover it.
Two of us at Eatbook visited LaPasta on separate occasions and were thoroughly impressed. As the space is small and reservations are required, we recommend booking at least a week in advance for dinner. That said, if you’re dining at off-peak hours, you may be able to walk in, as the restaurant is open till 12am.
The restaurant is known for offering Guanciale Carbonara ($28), which comes close to the authentic Italian version. As the name suggests, it uses guanciale, a type of cured pork jowl considered essential for legit carbonara. For something even more savoury, opt for the Guanciale Cacio e Pepe ($26). Made with intensely salty pecorino romano and, of course, guanciale, this dish is packed with flavour.
My personal favourite was the Rigatoni al Granchio ($32), featuring al dente rigatoni pasta drenched in a San Marzano tomato and cream-based sauce. It is topped by bits of swimmer crab, which were fresh and wonderfully sweet.
The antipasti here also get plenty of praise from patrons. These include the Secret Chicken ($16), a crispy and juicy fried chicken dish that is shrouded in mystery on the menu, and we’ve heard good things about the Italian Pork Meatballs ($12) as well.
If you’re looking for salad, check out the Burrata ($25), where creamy and milky burrata sits atop some fresh greens. As you can probably tell, prices here get pretty steep, but if you’re looking for good pasta, this spot delivers.
