With nine levels of shopping, dining, and entertainment options, and directly accessed via two MRT lines, ION Orchard is truly a powerhouse of a shopping mall. Soon, that bar will be raised even higher when Le Matin Patisserie opens its doors, most likely in 2023.
Taking over the Basement Two unit where TCC, or The Connoisseur Concerto, used to be, this upcoming Le Matin outlet will be the only other physical store where you’ll be able to get your hands on their famous pastries, apart from Raeburn Park. ICYMI, they recently closed down their CBD branch at Robinson Road.
If you didn’t know what the fuss about Le Matin is all about, here’s the TL;DR: Le Matin’s exquisite pastries are the creation of chef Mohamed Al-Matin, whose immaculate CV lists three Michelin-starred Noma and the now-defunct, two-starred Restaurant Andre.
The menu at this upcoming store is yet to be confirmed, but it’s said that there will be new items, alongside familiar ones.

It’s most likely that classic pastries, such as plain Croissant ($4.50) and Al-Matin’s signature Kouign Amann ($7.50), where layers of flaky pastry are interlaced with butter and caramelised sugar, will be available for sale.
Mastering the classics is an art, but Le Matin takes their flavoured pastry game beyond the regular: think Smoked Cruffin ($9), starring an applewood-smoked vanilla custard and charred eucalyptus meringue in a sourdough pastry, or Escargot Escargot ($13), stuffed with French snails and a mushroom-ricotta custard, then topped with garlic crumbs and parsley chimichurri.
At their Robinson Road outlet, sandwiches including the Ox Tongue & Cheese Croissant Panini ($17) are featured on the menu, right along with breakfast cakes such as Avo on Toast ($12) and Pain Perdu ($12).

Here’s hoping that their ION store will also stock the Croissant Amazake Soft Serve ($11), starring a soft serve made with Japanese sweet fermented rice, and the Fermented Mushroom Quiche ($12)—AKA not your ordinary mushroom quiche. Definitely keep an eye on their Instagram page for the latest on this upcoming opening!
While you wait for Le Matin to open, head up to the carpark at ION to check out Surrey Hills Grocer, the latest cafe to hit town. Otherwise, similarly located in the subterranean levels of ION is Puzzle Coffee, a popular Melbourne coffee joint that’s got biscoff and sesame lattes on the menu!
