Malacca Old Taste is a hidden gem for budget eats, offering a taste of nostalgia with noodles priced as low as $1.80. Perfect for Malaysian food lovers or those seeking a hearty meal without breaking the bank, the newly opened stall in Bishan is a must-visit for all foodies.
You don’t only get wallet-friendly items on the menu, but also generous portions. Their Pork Lard Noodles ($1.80) features generous chunks of golden brown pork lard that pack a flavourful crunch in every bite. Online reviews tout this dish as incredibly tasty, with the pork lard having a crispy exterior and being fragrant within.
For curry lovers, they also offer Malacca Curry Laksa, packed with generous tofu, fishcake, and pork slices for $5.Â
The springy noodles deliver a satisfying bite and pair exceptionally well with the rich and aromatic laksa soup.
If you prefer dry to soup noodles, there’s the Malacca Hu Kiao Noodle ($4.50), starring a generous amount of pork slices and fish cake. To cut through the greasiness of the Pork Lard Noodles, get a bowl of the Pork Meat Ball Soup ($3) that’s said to be light on the palate. Â
You can also find the classic, flavour-packed Fishball Noodle ($3.80) here that comes with pork lard, fish cake, and fried beancurd slices!
If you prefer some light bites instead, try their Fried Beancurd with Fish Paste ($2), Fried Nogh Hiong ($1.80), or Fried Large Fish Cake ($1.80), all perfect for sharing or having on the go.
The stall is just a seven-minute stroll from Bishan MRT Station. If you can’t bear to walk in the heat, rest assured that Malacca Old Taste is nestled between towering HDB flats, providing plenty of shade and a comfortable route to keep you cool.
