Suntec City Japanese Food Guide: 15 Places For Unagi, Shabu Shabu Buffet And More

Suntec City Japanese food

There are so many Japanese dining options at Suntec City, there’s even a whole section in the North Wing housing a curated list of famed Japanese dining concepts. With such a spread, it’s easy to see how a dilemma may arise. We previously shared our picks for Suntec City food, so here’s our extension: the Suntec City Japanese food round-up!

1. 108 Matcha Saro

This matcha-centric dessert shop is for all you matcha fans. Hailing from Hokkaido, 108 Matcha Saro uses premium matcha sourced from Uji, Kyoto, which is known for their high-quality matcha. Try their Matcha Soft Parfait Deluxe ($8.50), that’s decorated with white mochi, red bean, matcha and brown sugar jellies, and soybean warabi mochi. For something simpler, go for the Matcha Soft-Serve Ice Cream Cone ($4.90).

2. Katsudon Hanakatsu

Katsudon Hanakatsu is said to be Singapore’s first pork and chicken katsu don eatery. They only serve their rice bowls with either original or spicy katsu, layered with a lightly cooked scrambled egg and their house sauce on a bed of either white or mixed-grain Japanese rice. Order the HA-NA Katsudon ($13.50++) and get a bowl of comforting TON-JI-RU ($1.50) on the side, which is miso soup enriched with pork.

3. Maguro Donya Miuramisakikou Sushi & Dining

As their name suggests, Maguro Donya is a purveyor of tuna, directly importing their supplies from Miura Misaki Port in Japan. If you’re feeling indulgent, order the Maguro 5 Cuts Sashimi ($52++) or treat yourself to the Hon Maguro O-Toro Sashimi ($58++) for five slices of the tuna’s most precious, fattiest, cut. Otherwise, the Hon Maguro Kamayaki ($36++) is a meaty collar of grilled tuna, available in teriyaki, salt, or spicy flavours.

4. Tsuruhashi Fugetsu

Here’s another famous Japanese outpost, this time from Osaka. Tsuruhashi Fugetsu is famed for their okonomiyaki and yakisoba, both of which you definitely have to try if you’re ever in that city. Meanwhile have a taste of these right here in Suntec City, when you get the Omelet Yakisoba ($13.80++) and Cheetama-Buta Tama ($14.80++).

5. Tendon Kohaku

Even today, Tendon Kohaku attracts queues for their tempura bowls. The affordably priced tendon here also sees seasonal iterations, including an SG 55 Tendon ($18++) drizzled in spicy mentaiko sauce, that was released earlier this year in conjunction with National Day.  The regular KOHAKU Tendon is priced at $15++, and includes tempura vegetables, chicken, prawn and other seafood, topped with their house-made sauce!

6. Tokyo Sundubu

Sundubu is typically a Korean dish, but Tokyo Sundubu is yet another Japanese import with 33 branches all over the Land of the Rising Sun. The tofu here is made fresh in their kitchens daily, and then cooked with a variety of Japanese ingredients and seasoned with a homemade, red pepper-based sauce. The Sundubu (from $15++) here has a customisable soup base and four different levels of spiciness, and unconventional toppings such as butter, cheese, mentaiko, and even collagen!

7. Aburi-EN

Aburi-EN specialises in aburi, or grilled meat. Their donburi, rice bowls with grilled meat, come with various meats─chestnut pork, Japanese, or Australian wagyu. The wagyu here is of A4 or A5 quality, which are the highest grades available, and from Miyazaki, a renowned wagyu-producing region. The Premium Buta Don is $15++, while the Wagyu Stamina Don, a bowl of Miyazaki and Australian wagyu topped with a raw Okinawan egg, is $19++.

8. Menya Kokoro

Mazesoba, translated, means “mixing ramen”. Here at Menya Kokoro, winner of Tokyo Ramen of the Year’s Best Mazesoba award, that’s precisely what you’re invited to do. Each bowl of Chashu Tokyo Mazesoba ($12.80++) is topped with a house-made meat sauce, various chopped aromatics, a semi-cooked egg and torched chashu. Add some vinegar as you mix and coat the thick noodles in the savoury sauce, so it’s less jelak.

Unit number: #03-313, North Wing
Opening hours: Mon-Thurs 11am to 3pm, 5pm to 9pm, Fri 11am to 3pm, 5pm to 9:30pm, Sat 11am to 9:30pm, Sun 11am to 9pm

9. Hoshino Coffee

Come to Hoshino Coffee for yoshoku, or Western-influenced Japanese cuisine. The ‘Hoshino’ Spaghetti with Eggplant, Bacon, Shimeji & Sausage ($14.50++) is a fine example of this, while the ‘Omu’ Souffe on Tomato Rissoto with Shrimp & Broccoli ($16.80) is an appetising and ‘gram-worthy main that comes with a pillowy, light-as-air souffle omelette on a casserole of tangy risotto. End your meal on a sweet, but not too sweet, note with the Matcha Pancake Souffle Style (from $13.50++).

The ramen here is also made with a special blend of flour, including Hokkaido wheat, giving it its signature texture and firmness. Their Original ramen goes for $10.90++, but you could go for the Extra Rich ($13.90++) for a punchier flavour.

Unit number: #B1-135, North Wing

11. Ramen Nagi

Award-winning Ramen Nagi has more than 40 outlets worldwide, with each bowl cooked with premium ingredients air-flown from Japan. There are four signature soups here: Original Butao King ($13.90++), Black King ($15.90++), Red King ($15.90++), and Green King ($15.90++). Each bowl’s striking colour comes from additions like black garlic and squid, chilli oil and cayenne pepper, and basil and olive oil topped with grated Parmesan.
