In October, Playmade left us shook with their release of wasabi and mala pearls. Now that Playmade’s Halloween promotion is over, the BBT scene is back to normal with the usual brown sugar milk teas from joints such as The Alley and Tiger Sugar. If you’re getting bored of these typical flavours, then check out MAO Milk Bar for their quirky BBT options.

This bubble tea shop has opened its doors in October and is the latest brainchild of popular dessert cafe, FATCAT Ice Cream Bar. Owner Charles Tan chose to set up shop at his alma mater, Temasek Polytechnic.
Similar to its eccentric sister cafe, MAO Milk Bar’s range of bubble tea includes whimsical creations such as Cranberry Vinegar with Citrus Pearl ($4.30 for medium, $5.70 for large). This tart drink would definitely wake you up with its sharp bite. Those who rely on caffeine to function can opt for the Black Coffee with Brown Butter Foam ($5.50 for medium, $6.50 for large). Â

Durian lovers can take their fondness for the king of fruit to the next level with MAO Milk Bar’s Durian Q Pearl (additional $0.50). Even as an adventurous foodie, I’m hesitant to try out this bold-flavoured topping. However, considering how the pairing of tea and durian mooncakes works so well, these pungent durian pearls might be able to uplift the flavour of floral teas such as oolong.Â
If these unusual toppings don’t faze you, then check out the bubble tea exhibition at Scape that’s happening from now till 18 December 2019. Hang out with your BBT-loving friends at this event and brighten your Instagram feed with their different boba-themed photo zones.Â
