Joining the growing list of Japanese food chains making their way to Singapore is Matsuya, one of Japan’s most popular gyudon chains. The fast food chain has a whopping 1200 locations across Japan and has been expanding internationally since 2018. Currently, they have over 1,500 outlets globally!
With its first Singapore outlet opening at Suntec City in November 2026, the brand is set to give established names such as Sukiya and Yoshinoya a run for their money.
While not much is known about the Singapore outlet, Matsuya is famous in Japan for its affordable gyudon bowls. A full meal there is reported to cost between ¥400 and ¥1000, which converts to about S$3.25 to S$8.10.
The current exchange rate is ¥1 = ~S$0.0081 as of 19 October 2026.
Some popular dishes from the Japan outlets are, of course, the classic Beef Bowl (¥480), stewed with onions in a sweet soy sauce, Beef Bowl with Tomato and Cheese (¥710), Beef Bowl topped with Grated Radish and Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce (¥580) and more.
Matsuya also offers curry bowls, including Beef Curry and Rice (¥680), Beef Curry with Cheese (¥880), and Beef Curry with Hamburg Steak (¥950) for something heartier.
Similar to many restaurants here, Matsuya uses a kiosk system that allows customers to order and pay easily.
