If you reside near ABC Brickworks Food Centre, you’re in luck. The massive hawker centre has a new addition: Meat & Rice, a stall specialising in braised meat donburi rice bowls!

The humble hawker stall, run by two young millennials, has garnered a fair bit of online traction despite being rather new to the scene.

Their signature Kongbapeng ($6.50), AKA 扣肉饭 or braised pork rice, is a must-try for good reason. Here, short-grain rice is joined by house-braised pork jowl, which boasts a healthy fat-to-meat ratio. It seems like the hawkers are generous with the amount of braising sauce in each bowl, too!

Regulars tout the pork to be uber tender, with a melt-in-the-mouth quality. You also get an onsen egg for added richness, salted veggies to cut through the grease, and a crispy wonton skin that adds a lovely textural contrast to the dish.

Their Duckpeng ($7) is equally popular, starring duck that’s marinated overnight, before it’s sous-vided and charred before serving.

Besides the aforementioned rice bowls, you can also expect other mains such as Pig Trotter Rice ($6.50) and Chicken Thigh Rice ($6.50), served in the same secret braise.
