Japanese mazesoba specialist Menya Kokoro is famed for their dry, mixed ramen, but this August, they’ve released two all-new ramen options inspired by a local favourite dish: prawn mee. Like your favourite hei mee, you’ll get the option to choose between a soupy or dry version, both jam-packed with crustacean flavour.
What’s more, from 7 to 20 August 2023, you’ll be able to enjoy 50% off your second order of either bowl when you dine in at any of their three outlets, located in Suntec City, 100AM, and Plaza Singapura.
Menya Kokoro was once named the best mazesoba by Tokyo Ramen of the Year, so start with their ‘Super’ Ebi Mazesoba ($15.80/$17.80), topped with thick cubes of aburi chashu, Menya Kokoro’s signature meat sauce, tobiko, seaweed, bean sprouts, spring onion, fresh garlic, and a special sakura ebi crumble. There’s also a runny onsen egg and two prawns with the shell removed for easy eating.
Give it a good mix with the egg, plus a rich ebi sauce that lends a punchy note of flavour to the bowl. If it gets too jelak, add a dash or two of house-made kombu vinegar, available on each table, to cut through the richness.
When you’re through with your bowl of dry noods and wish you could lick up all that sauce, don’t worry, because you’ll get a little saucer of pearl rice just as that nice finale to the meal. Mix it in with whatever’s left, and enjoy.
All the ramen at Menya Kokoro is made in-house daily from wholegrain Japanese wheat flour. Slightly thicker than your usual, with a good amount of chew, it also features in ‘Super’ Ebi Ramen ($15.80/17.80), AKA the soup version of this prawn ramen.
This one’s for the prawn fanatics among us because the umami prawn flavour in this is off the charts. The prawn and tonkotsu broth is simmered for a minimum of four hours and is uber satisfying. It also comes with two prawns, as well as slices of aburi chashu, sakura ebi crumble, and half a marinated jammy egg.
If you miss this at Menya Kokoro, fret not, because Ebi Bar at Cuppage Plaza has also got prawn ramen on the menu! Otherwise, stick to good old prawn mee with our list of best prawn mee in Singapore.
