Korean restaurants in Singapore are dime a dozen, but finding authentic Korean food that won’t break the bank can be a bit of a challenge. Lucky for those living in Kovan, as we’ve recently chanced upon a hidden gem for cheap Korean food in the form of Myungdong K-Food.

Located at 9 Yio Chu Kang Road, the eatery is a takeaway-only spot run by a Korean couple. All of the items on the menu here are priced under $10. You get both street food and rice dishes, so you’re covered whether you want a snack or a full meal.
For small bites, try their Gimbap ($8), one of the most popular items on the menu. There are four flavours: Chicken Ham, Odeng, Tuna, and Beef. Each portion comes with two maki rolls, so if you’ve got a smaller appetite, it’ll be a full meal.
They also serve up Tteokbokki from $6 here. The tteokbokki is cooked on a huge hotplate, similar to those used by street food sellers in Seoul.

You can add toppings such as a hard-boiled egg, seaweed rolls, or dumplings, for $1.Â
They also have Odeng fishcakes, which you can enjoy on the large wooden skewers, just like in Korea. One stick is priced at $4, or two for $7.

For mains, they have a handful of classic Korean dishes. The Beef Set is one of the more popular items. For $10, you get a Korean bento, AKA dosirak, with bulgogi beef, two sides, rice, and a fried egg atop.
Other mains include japchae, bibimbap and more!
Aside from the food, many online reviews rave about how friendly the Korean couple is—all the more incentive to support this small F&B business. The next time you’re in the Kovan or Serangoon area craving a quick lunch or Korean food, be sure to check Myungdong K-Food out.
