Anyone who has been to Ipoh will find the name Nam Heong familiar. The eatery specialises in dim sum and traditional Ipoh rice and noodle dishes, and has been in operation for over 60 years, with over 15 outlets in Malaysia. In 2019, they opened their first outlet in Singapore at 313@Somserset’s Food Republic, and this August, the brand is following up with yet another stall, opening in ION Orchard‘s Food Opera food court.

Brought in by the local celebrity Mark Lee, the Nam Heong diner will occupy a stall in the food court, under the BreadTalk Group.

They will be selling a variety of house-made dim sum items, including their ultra-popular egg tarts. These egg tarts are dubbed as one of the best in Ipoh, thanks to their silky smooth custard, and flaky pastry crust shell. Each tart is priced at $2.10.
Apart from the egg tart, other signatures available include the popular Nam Heong Chicken Sou ($2.60). The buttery pastry wraps round a char siew-style chicken filling, with a sweet, smoky sauce to make each bite moreish.

An Ipoh diner is not complete without Ipoh hor fun on the menu, and at Nam Heong ION Orchard, you can expect to order the Superior Hor Fun ($4.40) to satisfy that craving. They will also have Assam Laksa and Hae Mee, both featuring the OG recipes from Ipoh, though the prices have yet to be confirmed for those.
Rounding off the menu is an outlet exclusive, the Deep Fried Salted Egg Custard Bun ($4 for two pieces). These are liu sha bao deep-fried, so ready yourself for an extra gooey lava filling to reveal itself once you bite in.
For now, the exact opening date is not confirmed, but we’ll update this article once we get wind of that. Here’s hoping dine-in restrictions will be eased once Nam Heong ION Orchard opens.
