February brings with it occasions like Chinese New Year, and the upcoming Valentine’s Day, but there’s no reason to go to restaurants for special occasions only. This month sees a bunch of new entrants to our local dining scene, with new restaurants offering 5-course caviar lunches at $98++, to Australian brunch fare, and decadent durian desserts.

Caviar lovers, here’s one for the books: there’s a new fine dining restaurant in Palais Renaissance dedicated to the sturgeon fish’s prized roe. Aptly named Caviar, the Orchard restaurant offers diners eight different types of premium caviar, experienced across the dishes on their menu. Head down for their surprisingly affordable 5-course Caviar Lunch ($98++), which includes dishes such as bincho-smoked Japanese Oyster topped with Polanco Siberian Caviar, and A5 Australian Wagyu rump served with homemade, butter-laced mashed potatoes.
If you prefer to get extra-indulgent, then the 7-course Sunday Brunch ($198++) is where it’s at. Eggs Benedict with shaved foie gras, caviar topped pasta, and a kombu tart with uni are just some of the dishes you can look forward to.

Award-winning local brewery by EightX Brewing Co. has established a flagship restaurant in Balestier, with ice-cold beers on draught and a selection of Asian-inspired bar bites and mains on the food menu. Get pints at $9 during happy hour, or pay $19 to enjoy a sampler of four house-brewed beers.
On the food front, enjoy their Garlic Battered Wings ($12) to start, then move on to their hearty Salt-Baked Chicken ($28) for mains. We’re also fans of the Tom Yum Seafood Risotto ($16)—sour, spicy, and topped generously with manila clams and tiger prawns.

For a taste of Australia, check out Surrey Hills Café, an alfresco dining concept offering Aussie-style brunch fare in a lush garden-like setting. The 38-seater, pet-friendly spot is located right outside Surrey Hills Grocer, a boutique marketplace in the West that stocks premium Australian-sourced snacks, cooking essentials, and fresh produce.
If you’re visiting for brunch between 11am to 2pm, tuck into the Avo ($19++), which features fresh Australian avocado with whipped ricotta, a savoury vegemite emulsion, and spiced dukkah, sitting atop sourdough slices. There’s also the Crayfish Benny ($24++)—a spin on the classic Eggs Benedict, served with a crayfish reduction hollandaise instead. Don’t miss the Cod FIsh Burger ($24++), too. This chunky number sees a slab of sustainably sourced cod fish grilled to perfection, doused with a house-made dill tartare, and served between sweet brioche buns.

Muslim-owned bubble tea cafe MILK has reopened with an all-new concept: build-your-own-bubble-tea. The fully customisable experience lets you create 40 different variations, with prices starting from $5.50. If you just prefer to pick a drink off the menu, then fret not, as MILK still has their signature drinks available.

Get bakes by an ex-Shangri La Hotel chef at Butter Bread in Hougang. This takeaway-only bakery sells a selection of unique buns and pastries, all with a fusion twist. Their Matcha Mochi Scone ($6) reinvents the mochi bun bandwagon.
Instead of fluffy milk bread, you get a dense, crumbly, green tea scone, surrounding a mochi centre. Also get their Egg Tart Croissant ($5.50), where laminated, buttery pastry surrounds rich egg custard.

Popular durian suppliers 99 Old Trees have moved out of their original outlet at Farrer Park, to a more central address in Chinatown. The new location boasts a novel durian cafe concept, where patrons can come and get a selection of durian desserts for dine-in or takeaway. The decor is also minimalistic, with lush botanical touches that draw the eye.

The Stinky Bowl ($5.50) is a must-try here if you love durian mousse. Each order gets you a bowl filled with luscious D24 puree. The cafe also has craquelin durian choux puffs called Stinky Bomb, priced at an affordable $1.80 apiece with a minimum order of two.

Famed Japanese gyu don chain SUKIYA has expanded to Punggol with their Waterway Point opening. This is the fourth SUKIYA branch in Singapore, though the brand has over 600 eateries globally.

Come here for wallet-friendly beef don bowls, priced from $4.90. Apart from the original gyudon, the eatery also sells a Triple Cheese ($6.50) bowl that comes with mozzarella, Monterey Jack, and cheddar atop.

After a long wait, Five Guys has finally unveiled its ION Orchard eatery. Expect the same American diner-style decor, customisable burgers, and thick milkshakes here. Their classic Cheeseburger starts at $15, with myriad customisation options you can enjoy to zhng-up your order.
Milkshakes are also build-your-own—the standard Five Guys Shake ($11) has a vanilla base, but you can upgrade it with your choice from their toppings menu. There’s even bacon on the list.

Hainanese eatery The Hainan Story has opened a bakery at Hillion Mall, with a selection of fusion buns baked fresh daily. Two sizes are available: the Mini Bun ($1.90) and the Classic Big Bun ($3.80). Diners can choose flavours including Bak Kwa Pork Floss, Hainanese Curry Chicken Polo Bun, and many others.
They also have a series of swiss rolls, priced at $2.50 each. These are made in collaboration with ex-Antoinette chef Pang Kok Keng, and include flavours such as orh nee. Sourdough prizzas are also available for takeaway, at $24.80.

Daiyusan Sushi Bar is part of the small handful of sushi bars that serves aged sushi in Singapore. Though the idea of aged sushi sounds daunting, Daiyusan ensures enhanced flavours and a melt-in-your-mouth texture with their sushi. They range from salmon to hamachi, and our star pick: black cod. From $50+, you can WhatsApp the restaurant to customise a Sashimi Premium Platter based on your preferences.
Besides sushi and sashimi, Daiyusan also serves dons and appetisers, one of which is Unagi Foie Gras ($24.90+). A Japanese twist on foie gras, Daiyusan’s rendition retains its richness while incorporating the mild sweetness of unagi. Though the location is a little inconvenient, it’s a sacrifice we’re willing to make for reasonably priced, quality Japanese cuisine.
