NOX Dine In The Dark Reopens With A 12-Dish Dinner And Cocktails By Ah Sam Cold Drinks Stall

NOX – Dine In The Dark on Club Street

One year after NOX – Dine In The Dark shuttered its OG premises on Beach Road, they’re back in the game—this time on Club Street, between Telok Ayer and Chinatown MRT Stations. This new iteration of the dining-in-the-dark experience features refreshed dining and drinks menus, including a selection of cocktails created by Sam Wong of Ah Sam Cold Drinks Stall fame.

A nondescript entrance opens up into the first floor of NOX, which serves a dual function as a bar and waiting area, where guests can enjoy pre-dinner drinks whilst waiting for their dinner session.

The space is flanked on one side by an arching RGB, colour-changing art wall, beneath which runs a line of plush velvet seats. You’ll only be invited to store your bags, mobile devices, and smart watches in locked cubby holes, and escorted to the second floor, when your party has all arrived.

There are seven signature cocktails, each priced at $20++, specially created by Diageo World Class finalist Sam. If you didn’t know, the Diageo World Class competition is the world’s biggest, most prestigious bartending competition. Go for Pleeease Burst My Bubble—stick your nose into the bubbles while sipping the cocktail, so the bergamot notes in the Earl Grey-infused gin are extra heightened.

For a sweet start, try Kwai Fei, a lychee liqueur tipple inspired by Tang Dynasty concubine Yang Gui Fei.

Before you head up to the pitch darkness of the second floor, you are served your Amuse Bouche that’s included in the $88++ three-course meal. We’re told this is updated regularly; on our visit, it was a truffle-spiked Hokkaido scallop mousse in a cone.

The NOX dining experience takes place over close to two hours, where you’ll get 12 dishes, served four at a time. We’re unable to share the details of the meal, as the dishes are also seasonally refreshed, and in order to allow other guests to have the full thrill of guessing what they’re eating. What we can share, however, is that you can expect an array of modern European-style dishes, spanning appetisers, mains, and desserts.

You can opt for a Wine Flight (from $30++) or Cocktail Flight (from $50++) to accompany your dinner, with the visually-impaired staff deftly serving a new drink and clearing the old with each course, while you might struggle to even bring the food successfully to your mouth.

Finally, end the meal with a quiz back on the first floor, where you’ll be asked to guess the ingredients of the dishes you had during the dinner. You’ll be surprised how dependent you are on your sight in the identification of things!

Just across from Club Street is Far East Square, where you’ll find sandwich bar Korio, known for their loaded sammies. Otherwise, just down the road from NOX is halal-friendly Picanhas’ where you can get value-for-money steak.
