Old Bugis Kway Chap: Famous Sengkang Kway Chap Stall Open Since 1973

Old Bugis Kway Chap has famous kway chap in Sengkang

Singapore has many famous kway chap stalls, but few are to be found in the Northeast. Old Bugis Kway Chap proves that wrong, however, as the Sengkang kopitiam stall has been around since 1973, and garners long queues during peak hours for a plate of their warming kway and innards. Plus, they open till 3am—great for supper!

First, let’s get the name out of the way. The ā€œBugisā€ in the stall’s namesake is a nod to its early address in the central neighbourhood, before they relocated to Sengkang, where they have been ever since.

Their Kway Chap Set for 1 Pax ($5) is the bestseller here. The messy platter comes with the usual offal cuts, from intestines to pig skin, as well as braised tau pok and pork belly, all slopped with a rich, spiced gravy. Choose to have it with white rice ($0.50) or kway ($0.70).

The menu at Old Bugis Kway Chap also features a couple of other items you won’t find at your average kway chap stall. The first is the Old Bugis Rice ($4.50), their riff on lu rou fan, served with fatty slices of pork belly and tau pok, on a bed of white rice.Ā

Another unique item is their Kway Chap Dry ($4.50), where you get the offal and other ingredients served on a bowl of soupy kway, sans the usual addition of gravy.

Fans of Braised Pork Trotter ($5) and Braised Intestines ($5) can also get both here, ala carte.

While there is always a queue at the stall, the line thankfully moves fast, so you won’t have to wait too long.
