For most of us, pasta restaurants aren’t an everyday dining affair, considering the high price tag that often comes with it. You can, however, indulge without splurging at PocoLoco, an underrated Italian restaurant tucked along Upper Thomson Road.

This casual restaurant serves a wide selection of pasta, risotto, meaty mains and more at wallet-friendly nett prices, without GST or service charge. They’re probably most known for their Cold Capellini ($21.90): thin pasta strands chilled and topped with fresh Hokkaido scallops, sea urchin, and shio kombu. The pasta is then tossed in truffle oil for an umami lift.

Other popular favourites are the Granchio ($14.90), a creamy tomato and crab pasta dish, and Manzo ($14.90), which stars fettucine and sliced beef in a truffle cream sauce.

If budget isn’t a constraint, PocoLoco has elegantly plated mains such as Roasted Pork Rack ($23.90) and Filleto di Manzo ($24.90): beef tenderloin with a piquant gorgonzola sauce.

The restaurant also has a Burrata with Parma Ham and Rocket ($17.90) that’s worth sharing if you and your dining companions are cheese fans.

For dessert, go for classics such as Tiramisu ($7.90) and Panna Cotta ($5.90), or switch it up with a Matcha Lava ($11) cake instead.

If you’re looking for more food in the Thomson hood, drop by Mr Onigiri, a cute window-side kiosk selling affordable onigiri in unique flavours. Try the Signature Melty Cheesy Crispy Chicken ($5.90), which comes with a deep-fried chicken patty, creamy tartar sauce, and melty cheese held together with short-grain rice.

Alternatively, read our Hello Arigato review if you’re craving thick sandos and fusion dishes in a cafe setting.
