This Tanjong Pagar Cafe Has Beautifully Plated Mongolian Food Under $15

Positivity Cafe in Tanjong Pagar has Mongolian food

Mongolian fare isn’t something we cover as much as we’d like to as it’s a rare find in Singapore. So naturally, my curiosity was piqued when I chanced upon Positivity Cafe, a restaurant in Tanjong Pagar that specialises in affordable and beautifully plated Mongolian food.

Their menu isn’t made up of a lot of items, but you can tell that there’s a homely touch to every dish here. Some popular dishes include the Russian Kotlet ($10.50), Mongolian Dumpling ($10.50), Hungarian Goulash ($10.50), and Mongolian Meat Pastry ($12.50).

You can’t go wrong with their Russian Kotlet—this hearty meal comprises a scoop of rice with either a beef or chicken patty, sunny-side-up, cabbage salad, and mashed potato. You also get a good amount of gravy to pair with your patty and mashed potato!

We recommend getting a plate of the Mongolian Dumpling to share with your dining companion. This dish comes with eight pieces of steamed dumplings made with either beef or chicken, and a creamy salad in the middle. Here’s a tip: these dumplings taste best when paired with a glass of white or red wine.

It’s a must to get the Mongolian Meat Pastry AKA khuushuur as this dish is said to be a local favourite. This deep-fried pastry is made with wheat flour dough and comes with a ground beef filling mixed with onions and garlic. FYI, this treat is typically eaten with your hands instead of using cutlery.

If there’s room for desserts, get their Affogato (price TBD) which seems to be a crowd favourite here. This bittersweet treat is served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a shot of hot espresso that ultimately creates a coffee-gelato dessert. Speaking of coffee, there are also speciality coffee options available such as Coconut Coffee ($7), and Banana Coffee ($7).
