10 Promenade Food Places Near The MRT To Satisfy Your Japanese Food Cravings

Eat your fill at these Japanese food places near Promenade

Many know Promenade as merely a stopover between Dhoby Ghaut and Marina Bay, but few are aware that Promenade houses many good food places. With three malls found near the MRT Station, you’ll be spoilt for choice when you head over for a meal, especially if you’re craving for Japanese food. Here’s my list of go-to Japanese restaurants for whenever I’m in the area.

1. Tendon Kohaku

The most popular restaurant at Suntec City’s Eat At Seven has got to be Tendon Kohaku. Regardless of the time of day, there is always a queue of hungry customers waiting to delight their taste buds with their tendon. The classic Kohaku Tendon ($15++) is not to be missed. While the ingredients are similar to most Japanese restaurants’ tendon, what sets Tendon Kohaku apart is the seasoning and freshness of each ingredient. The batter is light and adds a nice crunch to the dish without leaving you with that jelak feeling. If you are looking for a spicy kick, you can opt for the Kohaku Tendon Spicy Flavor ($15++). The portions are generous, so you can expect to have your fill with just one bowl.

Address: 3 Temasek Boulevard, #03-310/311, Eat At Seven, Suntec City Tower 1, Singapore 038983

2. Sandaime Bunji

Sandaime Bunji specialises in beef bowls. The Wagyu Round Roast Beef Set ($19.90++ during lunch, $24.90++ during dinner) is a must-order here. Limited to only 15 sets for lunch and dinner respectively, be sure to head down early to get your hands on this beef monster! The restaurant mimics the warm, cosy feel of a traditional Japanese eatery to take you right back to your meals in Japan.

Address: 9 Raffles Boulevard, #01-14/15, Millenia Walk, Singapore 039596
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 11:30am to 3pm, 5pm to 11pm, Sat 11:30am to 11pm, Sun 11:30am to 9pm

3. Katsudon Hanakatsu

Found next to Tendon Kohaku at Eat at Seven, Katsudon Hanakatsu serves only chicken and pork katsudon, available in spicy and non-spicy versions. The non-spicy Ha-na Katsudon (13.50++) is a popular order here. With both chicken and pork cutlets, this is good for those who cannot decide on the meat they want. Six katsu pieces are layered on top of each other and arranged in the shape of a flower before being served. Their servings are large and filling, definitely my go-to option when I’m looking for a good katsudon fix.

4. Tengawa Hokkaido White Curry

At Tengawa Hokkaido White Curry, each set meal is served with a side of miso soup, Japanese white rice, truffle chawanmushi and free-flow pickles. The Chicken Katsu White Curry Set ($15.80+) is their most popular order, with juicy chicken encased in a crispy and light batter. The colour of the curry comes from Hokkaido milk, which makes the curry smoother and sweeter compared to standard Japanese curry.

5. OMU

OMU serves lava-style omurice that is not only a feast for the eyes, but also for the taste buds. The Mentaiko Cream Sauce Omurice ($13.80++) is my favourite, thanks to the creamy mentaiko sauce on top of the flowy lava egg! Their Curry Sauce Omurice with Pork Cutlet ($13.80++) is worth trying too. With six different sauce choices and flavourful fried rice, a meal here will surely leave you tempted for more.

7. Tsuruhashi Fugetsu

Tsuruhashi Fugetsu is Osaka’s famous okonomiyaki eatery, and it has finally made its way into Singapore. The experience of eating Japanese pancake right off a heated grill at your table is what makes this place stand out. Seven types of okonomiyaki are available here. A best-seller is the Omelet Yakisoba ($13.80++) – fried egg noodles with pork, covered with a blanket of omelette. For cheese lovers, order the Cheetama-Buta Tama ($14.80++). Add Yakisoba (+$2) to make your okonomiyaki a more substantial meal.

Made to counter Hokkaido’s cold climate, their ramen broths are generally richer and saltier than most ramen you’ll find in Singapore. The noodles are extra chewy too!
