This Minimalist Cafe In JB Has Loaded Pistachio Choux, Gorgeous Fruit Tart And More

Re Patisserie is a minimalist cafe with desserts in Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru is one of my favourite destinations for cafe-hopping in JB, so when I chanced upon TikTok-viral Re Patisserie, I had them saved immediately on my list of must-visit cafes. Places that trend on social media platforms are often a hit or miss, which made me sceptical about what Re Patisserie had to offer. Thankfully, this minimalist cafe was worth a visit.

We visited slightly after lunch hours and were surprised to see that their display of desserts was almost empty.

But we still managed to get a cup of their Iced Espresso Matcha (RM17+/~S$4.90) along with three desserts: Happy Nut (RM23+/~S$6.60), Cloud Hill (RM29+/~S$8.30), and Sourdough Morning Bun (RM9+/~S$2.60).

As a huge fan of anything pistachio-flavoured, I was excited to give the Happy Nut a try. This one’s a choux puff pastry that comes packed with a good amount of pistachio cream, then topped with chopped pistachio bits and a sprinkle of salt.

The nutty and salty combination made this the perfect midday pick-me-up. The pastry was slightly buttery, which I thought paired well with the creamy and mildly sweet pistachio filling.

Then, we tried the gorgeous Cloud Hill, which is essentially a fruit tart stacked with lots of cream. You get a tart shell topped with sponge cake, vanilla cream, and a variety of fruits, including strawberry, grape, blueberry, kiwi, and orange. FYI, this dessert is made with bourbon, too!

Though it came with lots of cream, this fruit tart wasn’t cloying at all. Plus, the arrangement of the fruits both on the exterior and within made this dessert especially pretty.

We couldn’t give the Sourdough Morning Bun a miss as salted caramel gets an instant nod from us. Though the crust was a tad too hard for my liking, I liked that there was a good amount of caramel filling within.

We washed all the desserts down with their Iced Espresso Matcha, which was on the grassy and earthy side. This drink is slightly more bitter than sweet, which I think matcha fans can appreciate.

The cosy cafe boasts a minimalist space with mainly wooden tones and rattan chairs. You also get plenty of natural sunlight here, which makes taking pictures a lot easier. And if playlists matter to you as much as it does to me, just know that their music selection is pretty solid—you get lots of R&B songs here.
