One of Indonesia’s most familiar nasi padang names has finally landed in Singapore. You will soon be able to try Sederhana, a popular chain with over 200 outlets across Indonesia, at a spot with plenty of local history: the former premises of Warong Nasi Pariaman in Kampong Glam.

Warong Nasi Pariaman’s closure earlier this year marked the end of a long chapter for many Singaporean nasi padang lovers, as the eatery had been a mainstay in the community for decades. Now, that same address is getting a fresh start with a new entrant that’s already well‑known in Indonesia.

While an official launch date hasn’t been widely publicised yet, things are shaping up for late May or early June, with word on the street that the doors could open for soft service before the formal ribbon cutting.

Inside, you can expect the kind of dishes nasi padang fans are familiar with—think bunches of tender meat, richly spiced rendang, juicy fried chicken, and other classic sides served with rice.

Part of what makes nasi padang so fun is choosing from a spread of plates, and early indications hint that the SG outlet will stick close to that tradition, even if the setup here might include some tweaks to fit the local dining vibe.

For Singaporeans who’ve been craving more Indonesian flavours, this gives you another solid reason to head down to Kampong Glam soon. And for those who have fond memories of Warong Nasi Pariaman, it’ll be interesting to see how Sederhana’s version of nasi padang lands with the crowd here.

Sederhan Singapore is located along North Bridge Road, a 10-minute walk from Bugis, Lavender, and Jalan Besar MRT Stations. It’s also within walking distance of Nicoll Highway MRT Station

In other exciting food news, old-school bakery Chin Mee Chin is opening at NEX Serangoon in Q3!
